Does the CSS Profile start Oct. 1 of the year you are applying to colleges, or a year before? In other words, I am applying to colleges this coming school year (Fall/Winter 2021/2022), so can I start completing the CSS Profile right now or do I wait until next month?
The reason I am confused is that currently the College Board website allows you to file the CSS Profile for the 2021-2022 year, and I am not sure if that refers to the 2021-2022 college application cycle or the first year that you will be in college.
The Profile can be completed on October 1. It will not take you a month to complete it. Get out your parent and your tax returns from 2020. You will need these to do the 2022-23 form. Get bank account balances, mortgage balances…all financials.
If you have all the information, you will be able to complete the form and really, it doesn’t take that long.

2021-2022 is the academic year starting NOW. If you are a high school senior, you won’t be starting college until fall 2022. Are you a high school senior? If so, the 2022-2023 Profile will be available October 1.
Unless you are an international student, you will also need to complete the FAFSA which also will be available for 2022-2023 on a October 1.
Ok…if you are a HS senior now, you need to complete the 2022-2023 Profile which becomes available on October 1. You will need income information from 2020 to do this. If you live here and your parents file a U.S. tax return, they will need their 2020 return.
You need to check each college to see what they require for financial aid submissions for international students. And you MUST adhere to the deadlines!
