When can you take upper division classes for your major after you declare it?

I'm a freshman and I have a plan to apply to a capped major. I can finish all the prereqs by next summer so by fall of my second year I can apply. Can I take upper divs in my major that I apply for or do I have to wait until spring?

You can take those classes whenever you want.
It’ll just be dangerous to waitlist and end up not getting in.

But if you want priority in Phase I, then you’ll have to wait until spring.

But why don’t you just apply during the summer?
I know many capped majors only require that you have the rest of your Pre-reqs in progress… and they make the final decision after the rest of your grades come out… But you still get to sign up early.

i can apply during the summer? this isn’t directed to the capped major, but can i declare Rhetoric during the summer? can you show me where it says i can?

Generally, declaration during the summer isn’t allowed.

Yes you can take UD Rhetoric courses before you declare your major

actually, I think you can declare during summer… well maybe it depends on your major, but I just sent my application for mine, and I’ll find out within a few days if it’s official :)
