of colleges that you are/were interested in?

For the past 5 months or so I've been looking at websites, etc.

Just wanted to see if I was getting ahead of myself, or whatever. (I'm going to be a junior next year)

And also (just for fun): When you first started looking, what were some colleges you initially loved, but then decided against them? (And your reason?)

I didn’t want to apply to too many places ($$$), so that kept MIT on the outside looking in. A few weeks into the start of 12th grade, when I started to write my essays, I had to drop Chicago, which was a pity because I think it’s a great school and I would’ve enjoyed going there. Around this time I also went to a presentation by a Harvey Mudd rep at my school. I thought it was interesting, but I didn’t plan on applying. At the beginning of December, I decided to apply to MIT, but soon after I realized that I had passed the interview deadline, which severely limited my chances of getting in. A few days later I decided that I would apply to Mudd, bringing my final list to:

I started visiting schools the summer between my sophomore and junior years, so I have a pretty good idea of where I’d like to apply as a senior.

I’ll apply to nearly every school I’ve visited. Probably the only exception is Caltech. I love the whole collaborative and creative environment (e.g. getting to paint the dorm walls) and it’s second to none for math/sci, but it’s too close to home and WAY too small.

Newest love: Harvard (I was totally not into it, but my friend loves it there so much I had to check it out, and it was awesome when I visited)
Besides that, I’ve been listing most of my schools for maybe a year.

You don’t need a fee waiver for some places. If you send a letter to Princeton saying you would have difficulty paying the fee they’ll waive it for you. Or so they say, I didn’t try.

Ehh, ever since I got my first piece of college mail
Last semester, I went on a college searching frenzy and managed to gather a whole bunch of possibilities (about 30, I think) which I’ll narrow down sometime during the summer.

You see, it’s weird because ever since freshman year, I’ve been dead serious about Tufts U but now I’m starting to realize it’s not the right choice for me. I only wanted to go there because I wouldn’t have to worry about financial situation. Aside from the money, it wouldn’t have been my first choice. And plus I had a lot of trouble answering their essay question “why tufts?” Clearly the school is not for me. Ever since march I’ve researched and came up with this list (no particular order):

Boston University
Northeastern
NYU
Cornell
Johns Hopkins
Duke
Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences
Brandeis
Some state schools

since middle school i’ve been thinking, and im still in the process of making my list, but here it is
university of florida
florida state
MICA
RISD
princeton
university of maryland
yale
Pratt

i either want to go into design, or pharmacy
hah yeah ik, total opposites

I started out freshman year with Caltech and MIT as my top choices.
I didn’t really start thinking about it again til junior year, at which point I realized that I didn’t like Caltech or MIT.
First semester junior year I was really into Dartmouth (because it has it’s own ski place), NYU, U of colorado Boulder, and Cal.
Then I took my SATs and started getting really serious about the college search thing, ended up with a 2360 which pushed my list more towards higher end schools, and I visited a bunch. Over the summer, ended up with:
Dartmouth, Columbia, Brown, Colgate, Cornell, Yale, Boston College, Williams, Bowdoin, Georgetown, Stanford (Legacy), UCLA, Cal, and UCSD.
Applied ED Dartmouth in October, UCs in November. December 10th got accepted Binding ED to Dartmouth, scrapped all the college apps, withdrew UC Apps (didn’t all get processed for some reason: still got accepted to UCLA).
Will be heading to Dartmouth in the fall.

By the way: visit your schools, people. it makes a huge difference. I was pretty “eh” about where I was applying ED, was having trouble deciding between Dartmouth, Brown, and Columbia. I visited and while they were all great, whenever I was daydreaming about going to college, my daydreams always took place at Dartmouth.
Also, I expected to love Princeton. I visited and realized I hated the whole vibe of the place. Ditto for Harvard, Amherst, and Swarthmore.

The atmosphere of the place makes a huge difference, so I really strongly advise people to go visit and figure out if you can see yourself there and all.

I started my list a couple months of ago. I currently just finished my junior year. A CC member actually helped me on schools that I should apply to in California since my parents will only let me apply to colleges out of state that are better than the in-state college near me.
