Do the admission committees wait until after the deadline to start reading applications of do they read them as they come??

Of course they read them as they come in. Many files get completed before the deadline.

Well would I be at a disadvantage getting my application in too close to the deadline? Does admissions favor earlier applications?

Depends on if you’re talking about a school with rolling admissions or a deadline.

As they receive them they read them, so I’ve heard. After deadline THEY CUT OFF!!! Don’t try aften then J/K

im talking about early admission, early decision, or regular decison which all have deadlines…like if the ED deadline is november 15 do they wait until then to begin reading??

^^ need to know this too

No, they don’t wait, if they did, they’d never finish by the ca. Dec 15 notification date.

Just because they don’t wait to read apps, doesn’t mean they consciously assess early apps differently from ones received near the deadline. Note the word consciously, they may be able to give early apps a more leisurely read, adcoms are likely to be pretty tired of reading essays by Dec, etc.

So the general advice is to get it as soon as you can and beat the rush, particularly the day of the deadline when computer glitches have been know to happen due to high volumes of submissions.

Also, the earlier you submit your app, the less likely it is for someone else to have written an essay on the same topic :D
