When do apps (common app and school specific) come out for people applying this fall?

July? or August? I think July

The application for the Common App goes up on July 1st.

Each school is different when it comes to the supplement. For example, Stanford released the supplement (as far as I can remember) in late June … they were very early. On the other hand, Brown didn’t release until very very late August. It was ridiculous. (Don’t get me wrong … even though I had a late start and Brown ended up rejecting me, I still love them!!) For all intentions and purposes, start checking the Common App for the supplement every week after the Common App goes up. Most schools will choose to post in August.

It’s good to have a head start on your essays, because the earlier you start, the more time you get to write them and edit them. Your essays should be as perfect and polished as can be.

Of the 8 schools to which I applied, all of their applications were out before September. About 6 were available in the middle of July.

Most of the schools I was planning on applying to released the supplements in mid August.

Most supplements are released in August, though they generally don’t change much year to year, so you could get a head start with this year’s.
