Just wondering, and should I buy books now or wait til after the first day of class?

August 28th, and I'll be buying my textbooks early, justement en cas.

Classes start the 28th. Buy the books for the classes you know you're gonna take.

Buy ahead online so you don't get ripped at the student store. Ned's isn't such a money-saver either.

I wanted to know how the online thing works because yeah, you're right, the CSS and Ned's are semi-ripoffs.

When you go to Amazon/Barnes and Noble and pile stuff into your cart and then ask for it to be shipped out, what address should we put in? The address of our dorms? Doesn't that mean that we should probably Move In first and then order for books? And how much time will it take for the books to arrive at the dorms?

Thanks for the replies.

Yeah, put everything in the cart, check-out, and when asked for shipping put the address of your dorm. BN ships faster than Amazon in my experience, but compare prices first of course. And no you don't have to be there when the books arrive, because the mail-system will already be up and running by welcome week and move-in, so the books should be in your mail-box. So when you pick-up your key, you can also open your mail-box to see if any books have already been delivered. But on Barnes and Noble, arrival date is more predictable and generally (and you can read this on the website) you add 3 days to the amount of time it takes to ship. So if a book says "ships within 24 hours", you can add 3 days to that, so estimate that the book will arrive 4 days from when you order that, so you can pretty accurately estimate what is a good time to order so that it doesn't arrive too early. Hope this helps !

Although I would like to know, when you're giving your dorm address out, shouldn't you also be giving out your room number? That being said, don't people normally wait until Move In day to order books, since that is when they'll get to know what room they're assigned to.

Any comments appreciated.

I like to order from amazon more than bn b/c of free shipping over $25; I've found amazon orders generally arrive a few days before it claims it will. It's approximately one week from the order date that your package arrives, in my experience.

Yes, when you give your dorm address out, you do have to include your building and room number. So waiting until move in day is logical. Don't worry so much about not having your books "on time." You could not get your books until the second week of classes and still be completely fine.
