When do deferred people get a decision?

On UM's website it says "Students with strong credentials that are not offered admission on first review are deferred until mid-April, at which time final admission decisions can be made on candidates who were previously postponed." Does this mean that deferred applicants actually receive their decision in mid-April or that UM starts re-evaluating deferred applicants in mid-April?

Hey,
It just means that deferred poeple get a decision BY mid-April. A lot of deferred people get accepted or rejected anytime between now and mid April.

Gl if you got deferred, and just to let know I got deferred too :( Deferrals Unite...

it said in my deferral letter (deferrals unite!) that they would notify me, by the LATEST april 15

I was deferred mid-Nov (app complete early Oct) then accepted mid-Dec. Although I'm the only person I know whose been deferred, then notified of a new decision (with the exception of one other person who posted in the acceptance thread). I will say however, I have a feeling UMich made a mistake with my app, cause they received nothing before suddenly deciding to admit me about 3 weeks later after my deferral

Most people start to hear back for deferrals between now and April. So get ready and good luck :S

doode LOL most deferrals get rejected though right...or do some go on wait list

My son also received a deferral letter today from Uof M---supposedly the "good" one, if that's true that there's a difference in those letters.

I don't understand how he could have gotten a letter inviting him to apply to the honors college at Uof M and then get deferred!

Keeping our fingers crossed until April now...Good luck to everyone here!

Crouton, you got deferred? If I remember correctly from the Penn forum, you had better stats then I did. When did you apply?

GL to those deferred.

I was deferred in late January and Accepted on the Feb 28th. Keep the hope alive.

I had the same thing happen to me :P. Though I got accepted a few weeks later even though they received no new information. Hopefully this is a good sign? :)

zkevin,

I've been following your posts and hope that the same thing that happened to you will happen to us! I really thought we had such a great chance at UofM with that invitation, as well as the fact that my I was transfer student to Mich when I was in college, and my husband was undergrad and law student there.

We're going to do as much as we can to help get an acceptance---and hopefully end up in your same situation! :)

Deferrals Unite!!! yeah my letter said decision by mid-April at the latest

LOL what are we uniting against! hahah. yeah...deferral..but what can i say being OOS and having a 3.4 is a double whammy

Flong those sounds like my numbers. I did however volunteer for a Senator, play football, go to LeadAmerica (shouldn't matter), and worked two jobs. Thought my essays and recs were great though. I am a URM, but I'm pretty sure you have a good overall case because most peopleon here do.

As a former deferred applicant (was waitlisted and never got off the list last year), I wish you guys all the best. Don't give up, but don't bank on UofM.

hahah yeah the only reason i got deferred was cuz i had an internship for microsoft and my boss, a michigan alumni, wrote me a rec to them. My sat 1 score 2140 1 sitting is decent too but my gpa and oos status really hurts me

What's ur M + CR?

"My son also received a deferral letter today from Uof M---supposedly the "good" one, if that's true that there's a difference in those letters."

Would you mind explaining what you mean?

According to what I've read here, the more promising deferral letter to receive is the one that asks for mid year grades to be sent...

mine said "if a final decision is not made on your application prior to completion of your fall semester grades, please ask your high school counselor to forawrd grades when tehy are available." However, i dont think that makes a big difference whether it asks for fall grades or not

yea i think we've had a bunch of threads bout this already, and mulitple ppl said that the two different letters thing was a myth, and that there's just the one that ask for grades. i mean, no one has come in here and said they got the bad defer one
