<p>My son will be a freshman this fall at U of C. Given that airfares are steadily increasing I am booking his flights home as early as possible (he'll be flying Southwest). The fall quarter is listed as ending on Saturday, December 13. Does that mean that exams can run as late as that day or end the day before? I assume it's possible for students to have their exams end even earlier depending on the courses chosen, but I'd rather not wait until the end of September when he registers for courses to book his flight.

<p>The last written exams will be on that Friday. It's possible, though, that he'll only have papers and can go home even a week and a half earlier than that, or he may only have exams very early in the week. The safest flight would be Friday night or Saturday, though. Dorms close that Saturday around noon, I believe.</p>
<p>Actually, I think the safest flight would be a week and a half before that Saturday. This is because it is hard to change a flight to an earlier date, but relatively easy (and free on Southwest, I believe) to change it to a later date.</p>
