@dmarie I agree with motortrend. I heard last year more applicants accepted admission than their stats figured and they were a bit overcrowded. I think they are just seeing who actually accepts and then sending more decisions out. I feel for you and your D. My oldest D goes to UD and my younger D got accepted…But, is going to Penn State. She was accepted for speech major…So that is why she probably heard quicker. I know the business school is much more competitive. Good luck to her!!!
ps- What school is she going to admitted students day?
My son received his admission letter today. The letter was a surprise, he didn’t receive an email. Applied on 12/28 to Computer Science. 4.0 at honors public HS and 2300 range single score with excellent ECs. We are OOS. Now waiting to hear about merit aid and honors. With good $$$ and honors, it could be a strong contender.
My D application was complete on 11/8, we have received no correspondence. Its 13 weeks, UDel was at the top of her list, but now we also are losing interest. We were hoping to attend the UDel Decision Day on 2/20, but without an acceptance we have scheduled other campus visits for the winter break.
@dmarie109 It think that since you are an alum and a current UD parent, and your daughter hasn’t been treated as promised (15 weeks and counting), you should make a phone call or email the Dean of Admissions, expressing your frustration. You may be able to speed up your response.
This is the third year in a row that UDel has keep many people hanging (and students lose interest) You would think after the first two years, with the then new Admissions Director leaving, this new Director would make sure that it would run more smoothly. Unbelievable! Shame on them!
My S’s application was completed on 11/29. We have had no communication beyond the initial email that the application was complete. Every other school he applied to has sent emails and or snail mail about financial aid, housing, visiting etc. No contact at all from UDel. Not very good PR…
@dmarie109 - Same situation here and similar scores 24 ACT and 4.2 GPA. Son had application complete on 10/1. Received letter 15 weeks later (Jan 8th) stating they need more time to ‘evaluate’ application and they hope to have good news by mid Feb. Then 1 day later, we get notification they made a mistake and they would let him know by mid April. So essentially he was a Plan B or ‘wait listed’, and being asked to wait 6 months for a decision. It’s like being invited to a wedding only after it has been determined that the primary invitees were not coming to the wedding. Son got tired of waiting and accepted his offer of admission to PSU University Park. Asking kids to wait 6 months at the risk of losing out on housing options at other schools already accepted to is a little too much to ask. Can’t say that I blame him. Kids are under enough stress to begin with. Good luck to you!!
I posted on the other thread “Delaware Class of 2020 Acceptances”, but wanted to update my post #222 here.
My D was accepted yesterday, we found out by checking the portal last night.
Hi everyone, still waiting for a decision. ACT = 29; GPA = 3.7 (3.3 freshman yr, junior + now senior = 4.1) yes, I sent my Sr yr grades in varsity captain 2 sports… Great recs, other good ECs too. Appl complete 10/15. Got “the letter” saying mid Feb… Tuff to wait but have no other option, exploring other schools where I have already been accepted bcause housing, roommates, an all that other stuff going on.
S app was complete on 11/12, no communication from the school between then and today when he was accepted via the portal. Nothing in the mail or email. Seems it is taking them a bit longer (not too bad though) than promised, this was week 13 for him. He was excited to be accepted to the business program. good luck to everyone still waiting.
@burbs20 – Thanks for your well wishes! My D actually got accepted yesterday! We were shocked! It showed up on the portal. Now she is torn between UD and JMU. After the long wait she started bonding with kids who are attending the other school – but I’m hoping she will give UD a chance. I’m sure your son will be very happy at PSU – I totally understand why he didn’t want to wait around. Best of luck to everyone who is still waiting!!
@dmarie109 Coincidentally my S applied to JMU too, but did not meet deadline date for early notification. Heard a lot of great things about JMU - very reputable, beautiful campus setting. IT’S becoming a very popular choice among kids in SE Pennsylvania. Good Luck to you!
@burbs20 It’s kinda of funny. We heard back at the beginning of November that my D was accepted to UDel. But, her number one choice was PSU…Which is we didn’t hear until mid-December. My older D goes to UDel and loves it. Good luck…see you around PSU.
My daughter was accepted into the Honors program on 2/9, her application was complete on 1/22. She will be majoring in Chemistry. She’s a resident with great stats (3.99 UW, 2100 SAT, 1st in class, her ECs are weak, though), so they had little choice. Very happy she got into the Honors program as well, since that was not a given. Still, she probably will not be attending unless she has to… she really wants OUT of Delaware. Plus she spent a week there for Governor’s School and really came to hate the campus.
@dedex13 I am really surprised she didn’t like the campus. My older D goes there and loves it. You have the college feel of the main campus green. Plus a town center right on campus. That being said…I understand her wanting out of state. I live in NJ and neither of my D’s wanted in state. My oldest is a junior at UD and my younger D is going to Penn State this fall. Good luck!
We’re in NJ too. My S didn’t care for the campus either. I think he mainly didn’t like that all the buildings look the same in the main part of campus. He hasn’t made a final decision on where he wants to go (still waiting to hear from a couple more schools). UD doesn’t rank last on his list of possibilities; it’s more that he liked other schools a little better,
She didn’t like that the campus wasn’t self-contained. They were on the Laird Campus and she didn’t like that it seemed to be in the middle of a residential area. I also found it very difficult to find anything on campus.
My in state daughter is still waiting for a decision 12 weeks after her application was complete. She has a 32 ACT, 2130 SAT, 3.9 U/W GPA. She has already been admitted to all 7 of the other schools she applied to, with good merit offers also. It is definitely disappointing to still be waiting at this point, especially as an in state student. She is not feeling any love from UD, and her interest in attending is waning as a result.
Anyone else who applied in November still waiting on a decision? My S received an email 11/30 saying his application was ready for review. Applied for Electrical & Computer Engineering. 1990 SAT, 4.25 GPA,5 APS, NHS, 4 year Varsity player 2 sports + Club. Many volunteer hours & EC’s. Don’t get what is possibly taking so long. Not an email or anything from the school since initial email. Starting to get frustrated and annoyed at the lack of PR. Makes a great school look really bad.
