<p>really??..where’d you hear that? I would have assumed it’s first come first serve so that they can make sure they finalize all the fresh seminars before the start doing housing on june 5th (to ensure certain freshmen get put in a certain res college if their seminar requires it)</p>
<p>Not first come first serve; everyone finds out what seminar they are assigned to on the same day. I think most freshmen get one of their top 3 choice seminars.</p>

<p>WCAS only, though you can ask to get in some of them if you’re in Comm, e.g. the Kaplan Scholars Program.</p>
<p>Arbiter213, re: the link to housing – it looks likes this is something new, part of something called the “First Year Experience”, and involves 6 of the seminars. See the details on the Freshman Seminar page:

<p>Sure makes the selection of Freshman seminars even more complicated, since a seminar that sounds interesting to a student may be linked to a dorm that s/he doesn’t consider very desirable… And there’s no mention as to whether some of the 2nd Fresh. Seminars (taken in Winter or Spring) will also be dorm-specific.</p>
<p>The Fresh.Sem. page also mentions a link to find out whether a student is assigned to having the 2nd seminar in Winter or Spring quarter, but I couldn’t get it to work…</p>

<p>MomCat, I don’t think students find out if they are assigned to the winter or spring freshman seminar until they register for winter classes (in November I think?). Last year freshmen found out their freshman seminars in mid June or so; housing assignments weren’t released until August.</p>
