I was accepted into Stony Brook back in January and this morning at 12:00 AM received an email of my scholarship notification. I am an out of state student and know that it said mid-march would be the time when scholarships and honors program notifications are released. Has anyone already been accepted into the honors program? Does my scholarship notification with no mention of honors (acceptance or denial) just insinuate that I did not get in? If not, does anyone know how or when I will be notified? Thank you!

I don’t think you should worry. My daughter received that notification separately. She received a hard copy letter that she did not get into Honors and then she received the email like you did this morning with her scholarship notification. She is get into WISE and there was no mention of that in the email so I think it is handled separately from what I can tell. Hope this helps!

Son got his email this morning about Presidential scholarship. No mention about honors but I am certain he will be in that program, based on honors acceptances at other school (U of Mich, SUNY U of Buffalo).

He is going to UB at this point-full tuition, room, board and books covered. I don’t think he’ll get that deal anywhere else he applied.

Thank you very much!

Hello ,
My D has recently got accepted to Stony brook with a Provost scholarship of $7K/yr. When will we know if she is accepted to the WISE and or Honors program and is any merit scholarship awarded with these programs?
We are OOS. D has 1350 SAT (M+R) and 3.86 UW and 4.54W GPA. Ton of ECs and good essay and recs.

My friend got her acceptance letter to WISE yesterday. I called admissions and they told me that Honors College acceptance letters have been sent out and we should be receiving them within the next 2 weeks!

Congrats Oracoj58, Full tuition and fees is amazing! However, I thought my daughter would get into honors as well since she got into the honors programs at almost every other school she applied to but she did not get into Honors at Stony Brook. She did get into Wise though.

All honors notifications (HC/WISE/Scholars) should be out by next week.

Chris

Chris,
What about non Honors wait list, acceptances, or denials? Do you think they’ll be finished up soon? It’s been a long wait since October. Thanks!

Got invited to be a University Scholar but rejected from the Honors College.

Not sure really what the difference is between the two except for the fact that Honors seems to be more selective.

You can only get into one I believe. You can’t be in HC, University scholar, WISE and other special programs all at once.

So if I got an email saying i am a university scholar, that means I was rejected to the honors college and scholars for medicine programs?

I was rejected to the honors college but nothing was listed on the email about being rejected to university scholars. Does that mean there is still hope?!

I was just accepted into the University Scholars Program, Which program is better?

They all the same as far as what I heard.

My email didn’t come right out and say “you were rejected to honors”. It said “I am happy to inform you that you’ve been invited to university scholars…blah blah blah…this is one of our many special programs for students such as Honors college and WISE” and then it said “While we are not able to offer you a place in one of these other programs, we are thrilled to offer you a spot in University Scholars based upon your excellent academic record and the promise you show for continued outstanding performance at Stony Brook.”

@amazing

look at my post here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/suny-stony-brook/1473272-stony-brook-honors-programs.html

D received acceptance to honors today via post mail letter dated 3/11, postmarked 3/12. No extra scholarship, but she already received full tuition +$3K/yr via e-mail notification 3/13, not complaining.

celesteroberts - can i ask what the $3k scholarship was for?

It is for being NMF, but then they work the rest of scholarship so it’s just for tuition, not including fees. Since fees are about $2K, it ends up being tuition and fees plus another $1K.

That’s Great!! Congratulations!!
