Hi,

I have a CSS profile ready with estimates for 2013 that I used for applying Early Action. I'm wondering if I should send it now or wait until tax return forms are filed. Is it okay to send the CSS with close as possible estimates right now?

Thanks for any help in advance!

What are your school deadlines? If you can’t get your taxes done before those deadlines, you can do with best estimates. But you will have to contact each school to find out how to update.

Thanks for the quick response!

The earliest deadline I have is Feb. 1 for two schools. The rest range from 2/15 to 3/1 for “priority deadlines.” Would it be to my benefit to submit the CSS ASAP as in tonight–I’m not sure how the “first come, first serve” basis works with this; I submitted my FAFSA as soon as it was available.

I know I’d have to mail handwritten corrections for the CSS once everything is finalized; essentially, would I be doing myself a disservice by waiting to send in the CSS until after the tax returns were completed for the schools with the later deadlines?

Will your estimates get any better between now and February 1? If not, you might as well submit now, at least for those two schools. But otherwise, I don’t think most Profile schools give you any benefit for submitting a few weeks early. We have 3 schools with Feb 1 deadline also, and I’m waiting a bit in case I can get better numbers for a few things before doing it, to minimize the corrections that will be needed later. And we may just submit for those 3 schools, and update again before submitting to the schools with later deadlines.
