I am getting so confused and I know this is a stupid question to ask, but when do I start applying? People have been saying that the summer before your senior year you should start your apps, but I've been looking online and I don't think the application is out yet right? Because right now I am about to start senior year in September, so I guess I am applying for what? Fall of 2008 quarter right? So the applications for UC's and Ivy League's aren't out yet are they?

Anyone who can clarify will be a big help? Sorry for such a stupid question.

That's actually not a stupid question because many people wonder when to start applying. It depends on which schools you're applying to. You should check for more information from each individual school. For example, the application for most UC schools is available between Nov. 1-30, 2007 while the Common App for many schools (including several of the Ivy League schools) is already available now. Since you will be a senior this fall, you are applying for Fall 2008 (or whenever you plan on starting college). Be sure to look out Priority Deadlines and Early Decision/Early Action Deadlines.

Most people say that you should research past essay questions so you can work on your personal statement and admissions essays during the summer. Sometimes the questions are the same; sometimes they change. What you can do this summer that will help you during your senior year is to set up a timeline of when you'll apply to the schools you choose. The summer before your senior year is also a great time to research scholarships to apply for and add those deadlines to your timeline as well. Good luck!
