When Do Most Kids To The Federal Aid?

I know the sooner the better, but I just haven't have time. I'm doing it this weekend.

Have most kids done it by now, or would I still be one of the "earlier" ones?

Thanks.

The key date for getting the FAFSA filed for any student is the earliest financial aid priority deadline from the colleges to which the student applied.

For example: if the student applies to colleges with the following financial aid priority deadlines…
March 1st
February 15th
April 15th
February 1st

You want to make sure you have your FAFSA filed before February 1st.

You can find the priority deadlines at the financial aid sections of the college websites or at Collegeboard.com (although I’ve found CB to not be entirely accurate sometimes).

Like you, I’m doing mine this weekend. I was waiting on my accountant to do my taxes. As it is, I am still missing one 1098 so it will be just an estimate. But it’s better than a COMPLETE estimate. I have a business and my numbers go way up and way down year to year. Most people won’t even have their taxes done until later, so…no worries…unless you have a school with a crazy date (I thought I’d heard of a 1/1/10 date), or early decision or something…Feb 1 is FINE for most things so if you’re getting done this weekend - no worries. Contrary to the notices I seem to get every single day from CSS Profile (“um…you STILL haven’t finished the account you set up!”). And I’m normally NOT a procrastinator. Know that servers can get awfully bogged down on Jan 29, 30, 31…at least that’s what my notices keep saying, and I hear it from kids who are all trying to apply on the last possible deadline too. Good luck!
