Does anyone know when W&M is planning on mailing their acceptances? For my D, it remains her first choice although she was deferred in the early admission pool. Out of state female was a distinct disadvantage for her.

Approximately 5% of all the applicants will receive an acceptance this week, starting today. At least that's what the letter implies... I'm guessing the rest will go out near the end of the month.

I definitely agree, it'd be nicer for everything to be sent out at one time-but that's hypocritical of me, seeing as I rather liked receiving my early notification at Grinnell.

If I remember correctly, daughter received her admissions notice last year a few days before the supposed date. Big envelope in the mail...CONGRATULATIONS on it. She was happy but W&M was way down on her list at the time. Admitted Students day changed her opinion of the school.

did you have to apply specifically to be a monroe scholar or are you automatically considered? i applied for murray but didn't get it. does that mean i'm out of the running of monroe?

I didn't apply for Monroe, and I got it. I don't think you can apply for it...but I know someone who applied for Murray, didn't get it, and got the Monroe.

I didn't get one and I live in NoVA so I doubt I'm getting anything. I have to say I'm pretty disappointed. If I got Monroe Scholar I think W&M would have been my first choice easily but now...I dunno. Anyway, complaining over.

There is no separate application for Monroe Scholars. They simply pick 75-80 or so out of the applications.

Theprez - While being a Monroe scholar is nice, not being one should not dissuade you from coming to William and Mary. They get priority registration for only one semester (and that's just before all of the other Freshmen...so still at the bottom of the pile). You can live in Monroe if you so choose. Finally, you can receive a 3000 research stipend for one summer.

It's not as if you get full tuition, and in all honesty the benefits of being a Monroe Scholar are not great. That being said, there are about 75-80 incoming Monroe Scholars. After your Freshman year, however, the school invites a number of students to apply to become Monroe Scholars. The invitations are based solely upon GPA; this year the cutoff was approximately 3.81. If you get invited, then you fill out an application with an essay, recommendation, etc, and you can become a Scholar that way.

Theprez, I feel the same way. When I got home from school today I ran to the mailbox, but alas, nothing. I wasn't expecting anything, since I barely know if I'm going to get accepted at all.. being OOS female stinks.. but I just want to knoooow soooo baaaad.......
