This is the only school that my son applied to that we felt had very poor communication, we recevied very little mail/email correspondence, it tooks weeks and weeks for him to even get a letter acknowledging his application, did anyone else feel this way? Ironically this is a safety school for him, kindof because nowdays nothing seems like a safety anymore. So he applied regular, does anyone know when and how he will hear? Do they post online? Or strictly through the mail? Thanks!

As I understand it, eventually you will get an acknowledgement with a User ID and PW and can check that way. My son applied end of November, and have not yet received it. We called end of December and they said they were still processing EA's, and to call next week. I called Friday and they said they are working to get the ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS (not decisions) out by 2/15.

My D applied she thought early decision but she did not even get the acknowledgment letter until last week. I was getting very nervous and asked her to call and they told her they did not have her transcript. My D knew her transcript had been sent months ago so she asked them to check and 2 hours later they e-mailed her to say they received it. Later last week we received the acknowledgement letter - so it looks like they are definitely behind! They told her she would learn her decision in March.

My son was checking online over the Christmas break and found that the application status said they hadn't received transcripts but had received other stuff. That was interesting because everything was sent in 1 envelope in mid-November.
The school counselor called after New Years and someone from admissions went through my son's file paper by paper stating everything was in the office. The online status update would change in 2 to 3 weeks because they were so backlogged. So if the application status isn't being updated/corrected until the end of this month, when will the regular decision admissions be made? We had originally been told that regular decisions would begin to be mailed in mid-January.
Is the admissions office the only department that has problems on campus or is it University wide?

We had a problem with the admissions office as well. My daughter applied early, however the admissions office entered her name wrong in their system. My daughter got an acknowledgement letter, complete with log-in and pin, with the wrong last name. The application status said that none of her transcripts, references or test records had been submitted, when of course they all had.

I called the admissions office immediately and they were actually very nice and helpful about the problem, finding the two sets of records, correcting the name, and merging everything together. It took a morning, and two phone calls back to me from the admissions counselor, but the problem was solved. They did tell me that the volume of applications were extremely and unexpectedly high this year. A few weeks later my daughter was accepted - UMass is a strong back-up school for her, so we were pleased to have the paper in hand.

She has quite a few friends at UMass and everybody seems happy, however a recurring complaint is poor paperwork handling and lots of red tape . . . .

BTW - she also applied early using a priority application to UVM - we never heard a word of acknowledgement about the application, so I called them and was told a letter was in the mail. It was her acceptance letter - we got the ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF THE APPLICATION 2 weeks later! So - perhaps a problem with state schools?
