A lot of my friends got scholorships for their grades, extra currcluium activities, or doing some exceptional thing. I didn't do any of that so I guess I missed the first wave of scholorships for my high school years...

My after high school plan is still unclear. I might have to go to community college for a while, or go to a university that I would like to transfer out of at some point. I am planning to get 4.0 grades in university/community college.

I live below the poverty line so scholorships are very important to pay for my education. Can I look forward to scholorship opportunites after high school?

I am bright but I just didn't do well academically in high school for a variety of reasons.

There are many more merit scholarships, both outside and Institutional, for fr applicants than for transfers. And those available for transfers tend to be for lesser amounts. However, there are some, and the fact that you will only have to finance 2 yrs instead of 4 will help. Be sure to check out this thread:

Are you a senior in high school? Are you planning to go to college this coming fall? Have you completed FAFSA? If your family income is indeed below the poverty line, you will likely qualify for the PELL grant. That with some loans (again through the government and by filling out FAFSA) is usually sufficient to pay for local state college courses. Once you are in a number of schools, if you do well, there are sometimes scholarships available. If and when you transfer, if you do well and depending on your transfer school, there might be something available. It is true that most of the opportunities are for incoming freshmen, but there are often departmental monies for upper classmen who excell. My son got some grant money and an award as a junior which was such a welcome surprise.

Good luck and I hope you do well in college. There are always benefits and rewards to doing well in school, though not always the awards.

x-posted with cpt. Good point about departmental scholarships!
