Do teachers have to submit recommendations by the November 1st SCEA deadline? If so, does it have to be postmarked by that day? or received that day? Also...there's absolutely no reason I should try and submit a research paper or something? Will they just throw it away?

Stanford doesn’t like extra stuff (at least from what I’ve heard) so possibly write about your research in an essay?

Not sure about the teacher recs though.

Should be postmarked Nov 1.

Don’t submit extra stuff, they won’t read it.

Postmarked by nov 1st? Not received by nov 1st? Just to make sure.
How about an extra brag sheet showing more activities? Will they read?

Stanford asks that you not send an attached resume of any sort.

So the space on the application is absolutely all that we can put in?

…remember…
If you are applying with an ARTS supplement RD, the teachers have
to submit by Nov. 15th.

…also Stanford has this special sized envelope rule,
and a bunch of other rules…that you need to tell
your teachers about.

Yes.

November 1 is a postmark date for recs and anything else, except ARTS supplements that have to ARRIVE by certain date (used to be Oct 15 for EA, if I remember correctly, but you better check if you are sending something)

Thanks…

what about the extra space you can attach stuff in the Common App? Is that considered ‘extra’

Before they started accepting Commn App, Stanford used to allow one page of “extra” material if you had something truly significant to add. I am not sure how they do it now, but they generally very much opposed to any extra stuff, and claim throwing it out without reading.

If you have an abstract of a published article, or something similarly significant that can’t be put elsewhere on the app, you can try and put it there.
