In SA, if budget allows, the Hotel Emma is amazing. If that’s out of reach, there are some good Airbnbs in King William/Southtown. (The Emma is on the north end of the Riverwalk, while King William is on the south end of the Riverwalk. The central section has gotten very grubby.) Rent bikes and do some or all of the Mission Trail. The SA Botanical Gardens are lovely. Bliss, Cured, Southerleigh, Jardin, La Boulangerie, and Pharm Table are some of our favorite places to eat/drink.
I LOVED Hotel Emma. We got one of the rooms with the very high ceilings. Gorgeous. I also like staying on the River Walk.
Whenever I visit my Dad in far west SA, I stay in a non-chain gem called Hillside Boutique Hotel in Castroville. It’s not the Emma by any means, but it has nice views from the pool and restaurant and is much more budget friendly. It’s definitely not in the center of things, but it works for me as it’s just about 10 minutes from my Dad’s retirement community.

Hmm, I may have to check out the Hotel Emma when I’m down there!
