Here comes another political book...........

Cornell has announced its 2007 book selection for the New Student Reading Project. All new students will read The Pickup by Nobel laureate Nadine Gordimer.

This is the 6th year of Cornell's New Student Reading Project. Cornell will mail you the book over the summer along with Orientation information and ask you to write a short response.

Once on campus, you will get the chance to discuss the book in a group setting with your peers and a faculty member. Some of my first memories at Cornell were formed through this experience, so get involved!

You can learn more about the New Student Reading Project and the books they've selected in past years at http://reading.cornell.edu/

Reading.....are u kidding me....do they have sparknotes for this?

nope :(
its a new book from 2001

has anyone even heard of "The Pickup" because the past books are pretty well known (Guns, Germs, and Steel; Things Fall Apart; etc)

wikipedia it

whatever, i dont care, it's only 300 pages- but reading Harry Potter 7 is still top on my list of 'books to read' over the summer, haha

no...the problem is when will we receive it from them by mail???

yeah, apparently last year it was the beginning of July. if that's the case this year, then im screwed because im leaving the country for a LONGG vacation welll before july and wont be back til mid august

Its not like you are going to be murdered if you don't read the book. You can also buy it at just about any bookstore, so you are not screwed..

i cant afford books, i must save money to pay for my ticket/expenses :D
