when do they start reviewing apps?

Anyone have any idea when they start actually reading apps? or how they go about reviewing applications?
Just curious...

Why don't you call them up or email them? I'm not sure personally either.

I wouldn't call them or email them for something like that... think of those poor poor secretaries.

Well, email them then--if you're dying to know, why not ask? I know they're probably being asked this a million times but it's technically their job to answer questions. Emails take a minute for them to answer and they can reply with one sentance. It's not such a big deal. If you're worried about being very polite, email them JPan.

Applications get reviewed starting after January 1st. Obvioiusly ED2 goes first and then regular.

I imagine reviewing probably begins in late January, because EDII must be looked over first, as barbie123 pointed out. If you're asking because you're curious about when you'll hear back from Vassar, I can tell you that last year I received my letter on March 25 (I live about 1:20 from Vassar).

okay so vassar is missing pretty much all of my recs and transcript. should i be freaking out right about now?

The website said to hold off on calling for a while--but I don't want this to hurt my application. I'm worried that the letters got lost inthe mail or something!

@Alisonfay: Same here. I sent in my package weeks ago and assumed it to reach the school by January 1st. I'm kind of worry since even until now all my supporting documents are still marked "Not received" , especially I'm applying for ED2!

I applied EDI (was rejected) but Vassar said on the web site that they did not have my recommendations, transcripts, ect, so i called as they were sent out by my school return receipt and they were able to locate all the information and update my file. Good luck.

Vassar, like many of the best schools this year, has received a record number of applications. I believe that they are still sorting through the mail from the Jan. 1 deluge. You should let them know that you are concerned so they can try to look things up but don't freak out.

Funny, all my stuff has already been "received." And I'm an international.

I've emailed them yesterday and they told me to check back now that all applications have been received. Well, this morning three of my items are still marked "not received". Anyway, I'll try to be patient for a couple of days since they promise to contact me back in case there are further information needed.

@danielcarp17: hey there, when did you send in your materials and where are you applying from? I'm international too. :D

I don't remember exactly when I sent my documents, but they were delivered at Vassar on Dec. 23-26 or so... (I tracked the package).

I am Honduran. Where are you from?

I'm Vietnamese.

guess I still have to wait for some more days... :(

The fact that you have started an e-mail "paper trail" is good. If there is a problem you have now taken the initiative to solve any issues. That is all you can do. I am sure the stuff is there and they are now responsible for letting you know if anything is missing. They will look at your application carefully and note if anything is amiss and give you a chance to correct it. You have done all of the right things. Try to relax.

Thanks barbie123. Its' nice to hear that I've done all the right things. I just like the school so much that I don't want any external factors to hurt my chance. But you are right. It's best for me now to relax and wait =p

Thanks again and good luck to those who are applying to this incredible school ;)

No problem. I know they have gotten a lot of applications and are catching up with all of the files as fast as possible. The last thing they will do is reject someone because things are missing from your file without notifying you. There is plenty of time--enjoy the weekend.

do you think they read the apps the order they are received? i submitted mine at midnight of 12/31.. haha

I really don't know but I doubt it. The President of Vassar always tells the story that she wrote her application in the car the day before it was due. I think they probably divide them up by region and then have a meeting on a group at a time but I am not certain at all.

It takes a few weeks for your stuff to get posted on the online checklist, so wait a week or so, and then call if it is still not posted.

Good luck!!
