When do we choose our fall classes/schedule? Also, do Cornellians take placement test

s?

I was just curious because I have not seen any notification of this. I was wondering if I would be able to pick my schedule by August 15th because a scholarship that I received requires this.

Thanks in advance.

Your advisor might choose to enroll you in some courses over the summer. However, your final schedule probably won't be finalized until the add/drop period due to potential AP credit and such. This year's add/drop period begins August 27th.

There are placement exams available in the languages, physics, chem and math (I think).

Okay if my advisor enrolls me in some courses over the summer, will I get like a copy in writing fo this? Like will I be able to show my scholarship donors this because they need a copy of my fall schedule?

They might mail it to you, I'm not sure though.

In the same vein, how prepared are we expected to be before talking to our advisors? I received my preliminary transfer credit evaluation and I'm aware of all of my distribution requirements, but am I supposed to make a tentative schedule for myself for this fall? Or will my advisor pretty much just tell me what to take?

It depends on the college. CALS students were able to request courses over the summer when I entered.

If you're pre-med and coming in as a sophomore you'll have to take your pre-med courses.

If you're not...take a look and what is required for your major, see what you have and go from there. You advisor will also guide you. Advisors are very accessible over the summer and you should initiate contact with them before you arrive on campus.

I recommend you create a preliminary schedule for yourself and go over it with your advisor.

When you entered as a transfer, you were able to request courses online? Is this something I should be worrying about/doing now, or after I've spoken to my advisor?

In the old days...I just e-mailed the CALS registrar in the middle of July and she took care of everything for me. They don't do it this way anymore.

If you have your NetID...you can go to https://dust.cals.cornell.edu and I think there is a link for transfers to request courses. However...I highly recommend you chat with your advisor (via e-mail or phone) before you do this.

Thanks so much for that link!! I really appreciate it. :)
