When do we find out..

jackbauer- i go to school in sf too!
where do you go?

I applied to all three. My only reason for applying to the UC's was because I lived in california and I thought I would be outcasted from my fellow peers for not applying. (lol) I got into UCLA, still waiting from Cal. UCLA and cal don't seem to be very focused on the individual. I mean, I had to find out that I got a ****ty aid award from UCLA, online. Thanks for the letter?? Why apply to Georgetown? I don't think DC is very pretty, but I was thinking about a career in politics. And where else to go but Georgetown? Also, The prestige of a private school beats Cal and UCLA any day. I also don't like how Cal and UCLA cater to the needs of less-impressive state students. I do not want to be thinking "how did this person get into UCLA/Cal" constantly.

You don't think DC is pretty? Have you visited? I think it's beautiful. Have you seen the view from the Village A rooftops- it's amazing. So pretty in the fall when the leaves change color, so pretty in the snow, so pretty in the spring with flowers everywhere, and so green in the summer. Aesthetics isn't really a reason to choose a college, but georgetown is pretty anyway.

Some things to think about:
The environment of the location is way different between the two schools. I have some friends at Berkeley and they complain about how nothing is open past like 8, while in Georgetown bars and restaurants are open really late.
Social environment of the school- gtown doesn't really have a greek system, but that doesn't mean that there aren't parties
Sports- Berkeley is huge so sports are a bigger deal. I'm sad that we don't have a good football team- cheering in a stadium with 100000 people is awesome. But our Basketball team is on the rise, and we support them a lot.
Internship/Research opportunities- Berkeley is more of a research university than gtown is just because of the size, but DC offers many internships not available in Berkeley.
Size of student body- if you went to a private high school, a huge public school may be overwhelming. At a smaller school you'll get to know more people in your classes. Upside of having more people though is that you constantly meet new people.
Cost- obviously an issue, sometimes the most important one. You should know where your family stands on this one.
Religious tradition- The jesuit tradition is apparent, but not overwhelming. If you're Catholic you'll probably find it nice to be surrounded by people that share your views. If you're another religion you probably won't feel stifled, but it's something to think about.

There are lots of reasons, those can get you started on your decision though. I'm glad I left California for college, and it just makes it so much nicer when I get to go home and appreciate where I live. It's nice to have a different experience for a few years.

collegeohmy -- You probably wouldn't know my school (private and international).

Where do you go?

Ella> that's definitely very true... there is not a lot of guidance available in the UC system, and as a result, a lot of people I know don't graduate in 4 years if they went in without a clear plan.

However, I wouldn't call Georgetown nurturing...and there is not much room for exploration in the SFS, and I'm pretty sure NHS and maybe even MSB kids are pretty locked into specific classes.

I will say one other thing, Georgetown is pretty tailored to what your degree is. In the SFS, every single one of my classes clearly points to practical skills and knowledge pertaining to our majors..I have some friends in UC schools who are taking classes like the study of insects (and the kid is a poly sci major)...I don't know/think that is the case at Berkeley, but it is something to think about.

Hey guys. GAAP phone calling (when Georgetown students call to congratulate accepted students) is the 28th, 29th, and 30th. At the meeting I was at I believe they said letters were being mailed Friday.

Wow, thanks for the info, sportula! So I guess it's not April 1st then...

I'm going to London on the 25th to the 1st, so I'm basically going to be missing all of my decisions. WHAT SHOULD I DO:

Wait till I get home and find out then (ohh, the anticipation...)

Have my mom call me when she gets the mail... esp. for Georgetown because it's my top choice (though if I don't get in, it could make me really upset...)

It might be better to hear it from your mom; but that's just me. If im at home opening a letter by myself I would be more devastated! i wouldn't want to spend the whole im in london thinking about that unopened letter!

ilovedogs
I am in exactly the same position as you. I leave for a ski trip Sunday morning and will not be back until April 1st. I don't know whether to stop the mail, or have my friend or neighbor pick it up? The suspense is killing me. When i get home there will be 8 decisions in the mail box. Ahh

Just a random thought. I wish all acceptance and rejection letters were the same size, becuase then you wouldn't be able to open the mail box and be like, well i don't see a big envelope for Gtown so i guess I'm getting rejected. Lol

Also, ilovedogs, i think it may be cool if we both wait until we get back. Think of it as one last blast (R u going to London for fun or othe stuff?) and then when we get back our futures will be waiting for us. But you gotta do what you think will be best for you. Good luck

I would much rather find out sooner rather than later. In the end, it is just a college. Even if you don't get in, you're going to have to get over it eventually, so just take it in stride and move on. Can't let these things get to you.

Ahh Hansel, what should we dooo?? I kind of wish I didn't know the dates the schools were sending decisions, because that way I'd probably be able to wait till I got home to check. But in London I'll know they're sitting at home and that my parents know, so no matter how hard I try to wait I think I'll have to call home each day or so and check, lol...

Yeah I am going to London for fun... just me and one of my best friends... I'm so excited! I totally know what you mean, it would be awesome not to find out until I got back, but I feel like with me if I don't call and find out, that'll be all I can think about, you know... I mean already this is ALL I can think about these days. It takes me over an hour to fall asleep every night b/c I think about colleges, and then I have dreams/nightmares about colleges all night, ahha it's horrible... I just want to get in SOMEWHERE you know? So yeah I think in the end I'm gonna end up calling home and finding out. Good luck to you as well!

Luckily for me my parents will not be home. I kind of want to know where I got in before they knew.
But i guess if they were home and they knew where i got in, i would not be able to resist calling home every day either.

Have a great trip, and good luck with all your schools

arent they sending them out by mail? ANd didnt some people alreadey find out..... so chances r well find out b4 april 1st?

they said that they tried getting everything out last friday, so yes...you should hear before april 1st. everyone on CC from MD found out today, since we're right by DC; so the mails gotta be 1st class. i heard but didnt get in ~ best of luck to you ny

^^^^^^^I'm sorry, i'm sure i will be sharing your pain in few days.

im sorry about that too conjeniality! but i must say i am sharing your pain today, too!!!!! i live in VA and got the letter today as well... but hey I am sure there are so many great things out there for you and for me!!! good luck on the rest of the decisions!!!!! gotten into your first choice yet???

sry to hear bout that conjeniality..... good luck on all of the other colleges you are applying to
