what books we need for our classes?

Ya! How do I like purchase books not from the bookstore...Like online, so it's cheaper...

the bookstore will have books shelved approx. 2 weeks before classes start.

you can always e-mail your profs and ask them.

I'd also look into the Textbook Reservation program. Using this program they will have your books ready for you to pick up depending on what your class schedule is. UC Davis Bookstore - Textbooks - Textbook Reservations

But wouldn't the prices differ from used ones online?
Like on Ebay, I'm sure I can bid to find a cheap one :X

half.com is the best place for buying used books.

there is also the ascud book exchange....but that doesn't begin until after class is in session (i believe)

:: ASUCD Book Exchange ::

these textbooks are sold by other students with prices set by the students who own them..and eventually you can sell your textbooks there (once you've begun to accumulate them) at a very good price and asucd takes off a small percentage (like 5 percent or something).

so usually I'd buy my books from the bookstore, then scope around prices at the other stores/online (because sometimes before i get back to the bookstore, all the used ones are gone--and i'm stuck buying a new copy) and then return the other textbooks back to the bookstore.

*keep in mind: not all textbooks are available at the book exchange!!!

Do the textbook reservation thing :P

most expensive option possible, but it gets you the books.

Apparently the bookstore now has a lowest prices guarantee. If you find the book cheaper you bring in your bookstore receipt and they will refund the difference.

UC Davis Bookstore

you can call the bookstore and ask them what the textbooks are for each of your classes. Don't reserve, it's definitely more expensive despite what they say, The bookstore will only match online stores and not individual sellers such as on amazon or auction sites. ( don't quote me on anything)

Rule of thumb: the bookstore will ALWAYS be more expensive than buying the book at Amazon Marketplace or Half.com. The may have a lowest price guarantee, but their textbook prices are almost never the cheapest option.
