I got a 15K University Scholarship and about 2K in loans...which means my parents will have to pay about 22K a year. Luckily my parents have saved for me, so we should be able to afford it.

@foofityfoof: Although you are in an unfortunate position, BU is renowned for its generosity. They work in mysterious ways, what can I say?

GOOD QUESTION! I was hoping to see that I did not get into the honors program, but the open house link was nowhere to be found.

Nom, I am feeling worried about BU. I put all my eggs into this basket, and I have seen some people get Dean's scholarships with lower stats than mine. I know that I would have received some great merit scholarships at the schools that I withdrew my apps to. I got nothing from BU--I do not qualify for financial aid---but my parents are purely middle class and will have to take loans out for my education. What is up with this school? I have wanted to attend here for two years--they knew they had me. I thought that that would work to my advantage--obviously not. I actually called admissions today and they said that there was some financial need involved in the Dean's scholarship. In January, they told me that the stats had gone up for that, but oday I find that they have not. What is your knowledge on this? Cause right now I am --issed!

For the Dean's scholarship, it says "Given to academically talented students with little or no calculated financial need, but with calculated family contributions which do not substantially exceed the cost of attendance at BU". Basically, if you don't qualify for need, but you still need it in actuality, (and you have good grades) then you qualify for the Dean's Scholarship, whereas for the higher awards, it is based solely on grades.

dramaqueen22, my family's efc is about 45,000. Of course we could never afford that!!! My point is that at most schools merit scholarships are based on merit!!!! I am going to feel pretty sh---y going to school with people who have received dean's scholarships with lower stats than mine. Kind of sucks! Financial aid should be need based. Merit should not!!!!!!!
