I'm just wondering when we get them! I'm so excited.

ahh, i see you have chosen duke over LA, wise choice. Anyways, i sent my stuff on may 1st and have yet to receive a reply from duke.

^Haha, yeah. Now when I look back, I look like an idiot for considering UCLA. The only reason I did anyways was because it was cheap and I liked the location.

I had a long talk with my parents, and we decided on Duke :]

I got my NetID and info on my email account yesterday in the mail.

Your email accounts should already be active. At the moment though, you might not have access to your NetID accounts.

However, you can use your email alias which is firstname.lastname@duke.edu, you just won’t be able to check your email for a bit.

To verify, just go to www.duke.edu, and search for your name in the search box. A directory listing with your email and cell phone # should pop up on the results page on the right.

Not always - some people’s first and last names match up with other people’s (especially in the case of Asians with Westernized first names and common last names), so Duke will add a number at the end or a middle initial.

John117, you will get a little paper in the mail with your NetID. Your email is your ID (seems like your initials with a number at the end) with duke.edu at the end. BUT you can also use the firstname.lastname thing too. If you want to know if you have a number at the end of it like Senator Noodles said, just search for yourself in the directory once you log in and it’ll have your email.

Yeah you get your netID in the mail with an arbitrary password.

I joined the Duke network on facebook yesterday because I finally had my email :D

(ps my email for example is (first initial) (middle name initial) (last initial)@duke.edu)

Not all Asian immigrants legally changed their names. In fact, most Asians do not. Therefore their initial email alias will use their legal names. That’s what happened to me.

Umm…how do I log into my account? I have my firstname.lastname@duke.edu …so how do I check my account?

You probably missed the part where I said you won’t be able to check it for a bit (because you don’t have your netID and password).

I got the mailing with my ID number in it, but it didn’t have a password, or a Duke Unique ID number, which I need when I go to the “forgot your password” link. Anyone know where I can find either this or my password?

not the correct mailing probably. The netID mailing should have both a password and netID which is an alphanumeric code consisting of your initials and a few numbers. Your ID number is totally different.

this is actually one thing that erks me about duke - too many different ID numbers. Every student has a NetID, uniqueID #, student ID #, and DukeCard # which can be a bit crazy at times. Fortunately, you usually just use your netID and uniqueID.

Ahhh, thanks SBR. I guess I’ll just have to be patient.

If you are a grad student, you’ll get yours after May 14th via snail mail.

Oh ok. Thanks SBR. Yeah, I see. I checked the catalog thing and it says we’ll get the ID around mid may.

We also got ANOTHER ID…I was confused like sg12 and tried logging in with that.
