I was accepted back in November and I filled out the scholarship form before the deadline. I heard that we are supposed to receive our notifications in the upcoming weeks, is that true. Any info would be great.

My son said that in his acceptance letter, he was told that he would receive information in mid to late March.

Ds received their letters today.

got mine today

sounds like I should receive mine soon.

so are you all talking about the "guaranteed" scholarships? or other ones??

details? details?

: )

Oh, kool, my momma been buggin' me bout this :D told her i had no idea.

MikeWozowski, UA is big on the National Merit scene, so it could start informing students who selected the school as their top choice in early March.

At the same time, if you check out the scholarships page, you can learn what the requirements are for scholarships. For example, if you have a 1300-1390 on the SAT and a 3.5 GPA, you qualify automatically for 2/3 tuition. For a 1400-1600 on the SAT (that's CR and M) and a 3.5 GPA, it's full tuition.

Here's the link...

Types of Scholarships - Undergraduate Scholarships - The University of Alabama

Hope that it will answer more questions. My son is looking forward to seeing his package.

momreads - i know about the "automatic" scholarships. i just wasnt sue if that was what was being talked about here or not.

MikeWozowski, there are other scholarships available, too. The Million Dollar Band has scholarship money, including a full tuition scholarship. The Computer-Based Honors program has full and partial tuition rides -- those will be decided later in the month and given to various people who earned spots in the program.

I think that the guidelines for scholarships are just that, guidelines. I know of people who didn't meet those numbers that are posted and received scholarship money. I think that they are trying to attract as many top students as possible so they seem to be flexible in terms of those guidelines.

oh, well that is good news, too! we are hoping for the fll tuition scholarship, but we are not sure how the test scores are gonna go yet. DD takes her first SAT this weekend.

That is really awesome about the guidelines not being strictly followed. I have a feeling I will end up with a 31 on the ACT after taking it multiple times, so there still may be hope.

how about the scholarship application scholarships? I sent 2 essays to Bama.

this is getting even more interesting!

anyone want to report what scholarships you got and your stats to give some of next years crop some hope?

did you get scholarships other than the “guaranteed” ones?

I got the Presidential Scholarship, which is full tuition. And another Academic scholarship, which is 500 per semester.
my stats are:
32 ACT
720 SAT math
690 SAT writing
600 SAT reading
3.8 GPA weighted
30/300 rank
Band, orchestra, math honor society, a few writing awards, a job, hardly any community service
and there are more scholarships i could have gotten if i had applied by the deadline
my advice to you would be do well on the ACT and SAT and turn stuff in by the required deadlines.
getting scholarships at Bama is fairly easy

good job oregano.

are you going to continue in band?

did you take the ACT more than once? if so what were your score. right now my DD is at 29, but, hopefully, she can raise it to a 32. she did good on english/math/writing, btu horrible on reading/science.

yes I am going to be in the Million Dollar Band! I am very very excited!! i took the ACT twice, the first time I had a 28
I am also horrible on the science, 28 was my highest science score

so you qualified both on the SAT and ACT. i am not sure my DD will be able to get the SAT score up to the proper level, so we are going to try the SAT one more time and then concentrate only on the ACT.

did you do anything specific to prep for the ACT to raise your score?

what do you play in band? do you know kids in the band already or did you go and meet the band and the directors? did you get any scholarship from band?

my DD doesn’t want to do band in college, but i would like it if she tried it for at least one year. i have heard that college band is different than high school band.

high school band = mini version of bootcamp/the military! haha!

do you know what the schedule for college band is? like how many hours does it take per week? also, does college band kind of “end” after football season or does it just change to concert band after football season, like in high school.
