when do we know if we got the Alumni award?

I don’t think that’s right. I’m in the North Bay and I’ve already heard back.

I’ve sent the Alumni Scholarship address an email requesting the status of my interview on April 23rd. I’ll let you know when they give me some information. They must be freaking out as much as we are not having this done yet. As far as I know, this is the first year this has happened.

They replied and said if you had a phone interview the last couple of weeks of April, you’ll hear back toward the end of May.

wow thats me then…gosta wait till end of May…this is so messed up…wayyy to go Cal

I’m sorry to say, but this is seriously ridiculous. In the san jose (norcal) area we were told that they were late in doing interviews, sent us the wrong date for the interviews (later corrected), and told us we would recieve a follow up email on May 3rd. Still haven’t gotten that email…

cal sucks…

go bears

lol

My D got an email last night moving her up from Alternate awardee to Awardee!!! Go Bears!!!

^^^^^ Same with my S. Congrats to all of the Alumni Leadership Award recipients! Very impressive honor.

What part of California are you from? Congratulations to your kids!

@snappy - looks like only the south bayarea has to wait till May end. All other areas seem to have their act together. Oh well…

We’re in the South… a much smaller region. They really had their act together.

We’re in SoCal. Very professional alumni. S had a great experience interviewing.

I’m in Orange County, and my telephone interview was on April 24th. I haven’t heard anything since, but I still hope that I receive an email with good news!

My D had a phone interview late April too and was told won’t hear anything until the end of May. She did not interview with actual alumni but was put into a conference call with Alumni Department employees at the Berkeley campus. I feel they got behind and had to fit all of the interviews in within a certain time period. Those of you from SoCal who have heard already are lucky. Congrats to everyone who has won!

main bay area - fremont - still havent heard squat

Yes, if you are an alternate and some one else above you chooses another school or more funds become available, you will be offered the scholarship- nice!

I hear that the last people will hear on the 23rd…of May…and yes, that stinks! They are not happy it happened this way, the new format of more interviews being done overwhelmed certain areas, especially ones with large groups of applicants.

Getting a phone interview with the main office seems like it would be a good thing to be, they have a much larger view of things are are more in tune with kids doing fun, interesting, unusual things than perhaps a small group of alumni would. Some kids who might not look as amazing on paper, may have a better shot at the award.

Thanks for the perspective. My D actually thought the phone call could’ve gone either way. She couldn’t get a read on the two interviewers on the other end. She didn’t know if they had any of her info in front of her- just wasn’t sure how it went. She definitely wants to be involved regardless of the outcome of this whole thing. Loved it in High School, wants to continue in College. It’ll just be a great gift if she can get access to the resources she’ll have available to her by winning this. The money will just be an added bonus.

They do have the application info in front of them, so they like it when the person expands on the info and does not restate it. My D had to do a phone interview when she applied and now knowing the people in the office I feel like it gave her a much better chance at the award, because she does walk to a different drummer and they really look for active enthusiastic people who will make a difference on campus.

Well, it sounds like my D had a blessing in how her interview worked out. Thanks for the information. I can’t wait to start hearing about all of her adventures in her new phase of her life.

Now I wonder if those of us who were told would be notified end of May have a chance to win or not. They’ve posted a winner’s list and it looks like a final list. I’m really confused…

250 names on the list on the UC Berkeley Alumni website.

SomeMom.. any input?
