when do we know if we got the Alumni award?

rejected from SJ
santabanta congrats! where are you from?

fremont - bay area
i had a phone interview

btw…anyone know the full list of benefits for this?

Does anybody know someone in the bay area (that was interviewed this past Saturday, May 17th) that got the award?

I got the email yesterday! accepted!
I’m from Orange County , CA

My D got the email last night and got the scholarship… from OC also..

sooo…uh…anyone wanna list the benefits of this scholarship?

SantaBanta, my D emailed them a couple of weeks ago, and they were pretty vague about it. They just said the scholarship would show up on CARS in the fall… Let us know if anybody hears anything else.

You get the cash, dispersed by semester
You get a discount at the bookstore (though not on text books)
You get access to some other alumni connected discounts, like you can rent a car even though you are under 21, etc.
You get connections with alumni through events held by the Alumni dept

Check the site

Remember, you have to reapply each year , so go to Cal and get involved on campus

Please verify this info with the ASA, but we learned this past weekend that the scholarship monies are disbursed in two installments. The first $750 is disbursed sometime in October, so you will need to pay the full tuition and then you receive the scholarship. The second $750 is paid early in the second semester.

The competition for the Alumni Leadership Scholarship for incoming freshmen was extremely fierce this year. There were 10,000 applicants and 250 award winners (2.5%).

S and I met a number of the ASA leaders at the Welcome BBQ and they are amazing people! They’re very involved as leaders on campus and in the surrounding community in a wide variety of ways.

They mentioned that there will be a Welcome Banquet on campus early in the semester so all of the Award winners can meet each other.

Go Bears!

wow this is interesting…
i know someone told me that when i got regents back in april, it was similarly competitive? anyone have the stats/percentages on that?

how come in spite of getting this alumni thing, i didn’t get invited to a bbq? free food is always welcome by me

The ASA person stated that, at least this year, the Alumni Leadership Scholarship was more selective than the Regents Scholarship.

Also, the ASA people readily admitted that there is a “disconnect” between the Cal administration and the ASA around May 1 (SIR deadline) such that ASA doesn’t get complete e-mail info on enrolled students in time to get e-mails out to everybody for the BBQ invite.

Having said all that, santabanta, at a minimum, the Award winners should have been notified by e-mail about the welcome BBQ. Do you love in a really remote area (so that no BBQs were taking place near you)?

Oops! Freudian slip, much?

“live” not love

More likely that Santabanta lives in one of the regions that didn’t notify until late May. The BBQ may have been already scheduled or even took place before those tardy regions made the decisions.

Yes, there were tons of great applicants this year which is why some areas had such delays in interviews; with a larger applicant pool and all, they wanted to be able ot interview more people.

Remember, you need to reapply each year, so get involved on campus.

yea i live in a hella remote area - sfo bay area…whos heard of the sillicon valley?
haha
i always love bbqs though!!! i

I was notified in late May that I was an Award Winner. Do I need to notify the Alumni Scholarship Association that I will be attending Berkeley? The email didn’t specify. Thanks!

i had to notify them back when i was selected for an interview…
if you didnt do so then, then i suppose you should now? i’m not sure though…try calling them up

I notified them when I was selected for an interview. Is that enough?

yes of course..you’re fine don’t worry

Awesome! Thanks santabanta!
