My school announced a cutoff (222 for boarding school) but I'm not sure if this is for this years juniors 2010 or was that last years cutoff 2009?

Dont they announce Semi Finalists during fall of senior year?
Why is the cutoff score out so early

In May, when all recognized students receive a letter, we'll be able to figure out the commended cutoff. Semifinalists are not notified until late August/early September of their senior year. Cutoff scores are not "announced" - we assemble of list of cutoff scores from anecdotal evidence until we are able to call NM and ask (usually sometime in mid September).

What fireflyscout said. For people who took the PSAT/NMSQT in October 2008 as members of high school class of 2010, you'll receive the official news of nomination sometime at the beginning of the 2009-2010 school year, not before.

Question re: cutoff for boarding school students: Is this a set number, no matter where the student resides? I.e. my son goes to BS in his home state, but the BS cutoff (in past years) is higher than the home state. And I think he's on the bubble for the state (just got his score - 219), but just under for BS. :-( Must he use the BS cutoff or can he use the state one?

Jennie,
Depending on your state, a score as low as 201 (Wyoming, et al) was high enough for NMSF last year. So 210-219 is absolutely high enough in many states.

Jennieblue22 - 210 is definitely NMSF level in many states. As a matter of fact I counted and there were 20 states that had a cut-off of 210 or below last year.

It does vary, and from what I've seen, this year's curve seems pretty steep. It could actually go down. Only borderline people should worry because it usually doesn't vary by more that 1 point either way, maybe 2.
