can someone help me out here? I applied ED and if I do, God willing, get accepted when is the deadline for Financial aid?

Also, i hear that it's first come, first serve. is that true?

The financial aid stuff should’ve been in before November 1.

Your CSS Profile should have been in before Nov 1st. Get it in NOW.

how bad is it that I didn’t send that in yet???

you lose priority

It’s more than losing priority.

Your financial aid package is made up based on what resources have not yet been committed.

Just know that if you are accepted ED you are required to remove all other applications. If then you apply for financial aid and aren’t satisfied, tough luck, because you can’t now break your ED contract and apply for all of these other schools.

I read somewhere that for Cornell, if you can’t afford your education, then you are allowed to dropout of the ED agreement.

Yeah, but it’s your own fault that you didn’t submit it, not theirs. This deadline is listed on both Cornell’s site and collegeboard’s CSSProfile.
Once again, get it in NOW.
If you don’t, you won’t get your fin aid package in mid-december like everyone else and you’ll be forced to drop all your other applications without knowing how much fin aid you’re going to get.

I thought the ED agreement says if you’re accepted, you can wait until you get your FA package before you drop all your other applications

Your FA package comes a few days after your acceptance, iff you applied correctly [before all the due dates of other colleges].

So I am sending it in right now. do I just mail it or is there a faster way?

so I actually sent my CSS profile and I electronically sent the 2010 Freshman Financial Aid for US citizens and Permanent Residents. am I safe?

You also need to send Parents’ 2008 (Yes, 2008) signed federal tax returns. Please include all schedules and copies of actual W2s.

wen do ppl start filling out their fafsa? and when does the fafsa app come out?

As soon as you file your 2009 taxes, which can be as early as Jan 1st, 2010.

k thanks bioblade

yeah thanks a million all of you!!!

I have one more question, so I only have a hard copy of my parent’s 2008 tax forms. where do I mail it to or is there a faster way?

no you have to mail it in, and make sure to have them signed

Ebankim, while I’m glad you are finding out all these things now, shouldn’t you start learning how to research things for yourself?

If you google “Cornell Financial Aid” it will take you to the financial aid website that clearly and succinctly lists the process of applying for aid. It even provides a “Mail to:” address, a phone number, and a fax number.

If you have questions, why not call them? If they say it’s so late they need it in now, ask if you can fax it to them. Otherwise, just send it in the mail.

This whole ordeal could have been avoided with some simple searches way earlier in the year. And while I understand that the college application experience is daunting (trust me, I went through it), this is a time in your life where you need to find the resources on your own to answer the questions you have. It’s a valuable life skill.

I also read the website but I was wondering if the people on collegeconfidential might know a faster way to fix my problem. And i know that I could find the address on the website but because I made such a huge mistake, I just want as many opinions as I can so make sure that I’m doing everything correctly. Thank you for your concern.
