When do we start hearing from waitlists?

An acquaintance of mine in the admissions office said they plan to take roughly 92 people from the waitlist this year, and that Harvard is taking more than 150 from theirs.

^ That’s consistent with what was reported in the NY Times article linked in post #19, above:

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/09/education/09admissions.html?_r=1&hp&oref=slogin

well, i just called the ugrad office and i asked them when waitlisted kids will start be notified (fully expecting him to say they have started already) but he said within the next few weeks. Then I asked him if the 90 kids encompasses all four schools and he said yes.

Basically , the conversation was a bust. I get phone-nervous. Anyone else want to give it a shot?

I JUST GOT IN TO WHARTON! YEAH!

My regional rep contacted me on friday by phone asking whether I was interested. I emphatically said “YES” and he informed me that I would hear by e-mail either later that day or on Monday. I got an e-mail from him at around 2 today welcoming me to the class of 2012 and informing me that my official letter is on the way!

Yeah! Good luck to all waitlistees out there! I was waitlisted at Penn, Harvard, Cornell, Columbia, and MIT … this just goes to show that good things can happen to those who wait (or are waitlisted)!

MMmmm well congrats to the people that say the got accepted (if it’s true).. I don’t know I just called today and talked to the admissions office and they said clearly that decisions were going to start being sent out on Friday May 16th.. I asked if it was true that they had notified students and they told they would start this friday.. they need to see ALL the applications since everybody is qualified to be in the class of 2012.. so again, im not trying to let down other ppl who said they’re in (there might be exceptions i dont know) BUT for everybody else, keep in mind that decisions haven’t been made yet and it’s going to be on a rolling basis…

i spoke to the admissions office today and this was the convo:

Me: “So, you know, I’ve been hearing that people are getting off the waitlist and stuff. I was wondering if you have made all the decisions yet.”

Office person: “Well, the New York Times article said we were going to take around 90 students off the list so I don’t think we have gone through EVERYone yet. There are still a couple people we’re trying to reach out to.”

Any thoughts?

my admissions counselor that i spoke to today told me that yes, some people have been offered admission, but no, they might not be done with the waitlist. also that they go by needed major (business, engineering, etc.) so if they need more business majors, they’ll only look for that major. so basically if they don’t need your major they’re not looking at your file.

and by major, i imagine you mean school.

school, yes, but also the different majors within the school. business was just the example he gave me.

Keeping my fingers crossed for Wharton. I’m super nervous now because I sent in my waitlist interest letters kinda late, before the deadline, but still kinda late.

one girl from my school has been taken off the waitlist from Wharton. Good luck, guys! She found out yesterday!

i got a call from my regional director on friday. she sent me an email yesterday morning formally delivering a “Welcome to the Penn Family.”
i applied to wharton, too. it seems like all of the admitted WL students are whartonites.

was there only one person who says they got in SEAS?

I’m really hoping they haven’t done all of the SEAS acceptances yet :

I got into CAS last Friday from the waitlist. I was wondering whether anyone has received the admissions packet in the mail yet, since all I have to go by right now is an email and a phone call. Specifically, I am concerned about my financial aid package.

I got in from CAS on Friday and no package for me yet either.

Will Penn give those taken off the waitlist the same financial aid as they would’ve gotten had they been admitted regularly? or will we get less?

penn meets 100% need so it will be the same as it would’ve been if you were accepted regular
