I was wondering if you apply straight to a business school or if you need to wait til you get into the school.

And.. does econ major NEED strong calculus math skills?
I did poorly 610 on my math 2 subject test.
I am taking Stats AP.
And maybe calc at community college!

When you declare your major depends a lot on where you go to college, and a little bit on what you study. But there is no one-size-fits-all answer. Sorry.

Yes, an economics major needs very good math skills, including calculus. For most people, I think statistics is actually much more useful than calculus, but there are a few exceptions to that general rule. Chief among those exceptions are physicists, astronomers, math teachers and economists.

Some colleges require you to specify a major when you apply (and you can change later). Others just accept you into a particular college, such as business, to the university and then you choose a major second year or into third. Very often if you want business when you are admitted you need to apply to such as a freshman. Howevr, also be aware that economics is considered a social science and at most universities that major is in the university’s liberal arts college and not in its business college.
