When would be a good time to do thank you notes for letters of recommendation? Also, how exactly do I give the teacher the note. Do I just walk up to her and be like "thanks for the recommendation" and walk away. Seems awkward to me

I would do them as soon as she/he has finished writing the letter of recommendation (why wait anyway?). I would walk up to her/him and thank her for writing a recommendation (and giving her a card or something of the like). I have done this before, and it didn't seem awkward to me.

Why would it be awkward, Reeze?
Also, kchen, what do you mean by "giving her a card or something like that"? You meen like a greeting card that says "Thanks for the recommendation"? Hmm I wonder if Hallmark make those lol...

every teacher has a mailbox. Ask the office staff to leave it in the box. Do it soon after they are sent by the teacher.

BTW you should get in the habit of writing thank-you letters if you aren't already. This means for birthday and xmas gifts, for interviewers, etc.

Well, some people don't give cards, so I didn't want to limit it to just that. That would be quite interesting if Hallmark did make those "thanks for the recommendation" cards... haha.

I sent out my thank-you cards in mid december - about 2 weeks after I collected everything from my teachers.

The thank you cards should be long, preferably. After all, you should know these teachers pretty well to get them to write you letters, and you should put some feeling into your cards.

I thanked them breifly for their generosity, then I wrote about how they impacted my life in such a way that I'm constantly inspired to improve.

i did my thank you cards right after winter break.. thats around the deadline for apps so the thank you cards also serve as little reminders if they haven't sent the rec in already..

and then i would follow up with one in may telling them which school i ended up choosing..

thank you cards don't have to be long.. just genuine. it's alot better than just telling your teachers thank you because they'll remember that you took the time to give them a thank you card.
