When do you hear back?

Hello,

I'm applying for Undegrad before American Thanksgiving (in a couple of weeks), and I wanted to know when I will hear back. Apparently it's "between January and May", but that just kills me. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Late January, early February if you apply by then.

Possibly longer if you are borderline "not so good", but that is highly unlikely.

I've heard some people only get their decision in May, but I think that is mainly for CEGEP students.

if I applied in early september, what are my chances of hearing back in early january?

32 ACT, 2010 SAT (superscored), 94.80 Weighted Grade Avg, 10 AP classes...

Any idea???? McGill is my first choice by 20 thousand miles over any other school...

If you're coming from a US school, then you'll hear back by late March at the latest. It varies upon when you've sent your transcripts and test scores.

I had everything totally in around the middle of september. Is it likely that I'll be given a decision pretty early?

My son (US applicant) applied in October and received acceptance in January. It was 2 years ago but stats were very similar to yours.
Hope you get in; it is a great school!

So, if you don't mind my asking, is your son still there? If you could share info about how housing arrangements have gone, as well as how signing up for courses, guidance in major etc ...I know the system doesn't cater/coddle students like the U.S. system does. I am sure many would be interested in any info you could offer. Thanks if you have time.

You definitely got it right when you say you are "on your own". So if you don't consider yourself the independent type then you will struggle a bit initially, I'm sure. I have another son in a US university and what a difference in the "coddle" factor! That being said, there is so much to offer at McGill, you just have to go after it. Meet with your advisor, talk to upperclassmen to figure out a good course plan. Freshman year is the only year you will live on campus so you need to get a jump on the off campusing housing situation pretty early on. It is a major city so off campus housing can get pricey or be dumpy so it can take some work to find a suitable place. His first 2.5 years have been great and seem to be getting better with time so that is a good thing!

Quite late ---- around late march, I think maybe even early april -- I remember emailing admissions because I had to make a decision between McGill and US schools by May 1st -- and you will for sure get in -- admissions is based completely on grades and as long as you are above a 90% average, you should be able to get in
- I am a former student, so if you need any more info, just message me
Good Luck!

Aaaah! I actually did the app around back then, but I just finally was able to send my transcripts and documents to the school just a few days ago.

I'd love to hear by late january/february, but I probably won't until March. Meh, I'll see...
