What country are you in? Can you explain their system?

Here, in the United States, the school year typically runs from Aug/Sep through May/June (depending on the state). Students apply to college during their last (senior) year of high school. So by the time they graduate in May/June they know where they are going, and then they start that Aug/Sep after taking the summer off.

Also, here in the US, there is no such thing as “studying pre-med.” You can major in whatever you want to in college - after 4 years of college, you go to medical school for 4 more years, and then residency in your specialty.
