When do you start applying to colleges?

I am going to be a senior(class of 2012) and I have been told different things about applying and I just want to know when because one of my friends told me to start writing the essays during the summer? Please help.

Usually in the first semester seniors are scrambling to get their common applications and essays finished and sent. If you plan to do EA, then people most likely start the first quarter when school starts. I did RD so I was very very busy during the month of Dec/Jan. I was such a procrastinator … Don’t be like me. Definitely start your essay in the summer to make it easier for you. Once you’re finished writing, just keep editing and make more drafts. You have plenty of time now so use it wisely.

Thank you very much!

yeah thats what I’ll be doing. For example GaTech released the essay questions already so I’ll get started on those after 4th of July weekend

Ideally, you should already be brainstorming for your essays. Seriously.

It is not, however, a terrible problem if you don’t. Besides my one EA application, I did all of my other applications (8 in total) over winter break, writing several essays in just a week and a half. It was an awful experience, but it was manageable. There are other people that are even more laid back about the whole process. Several of my sister’s Penn friends, for instance, have said that they wrote their applications during the middle of a Christmas house party, or the night before the deadline, etc.

I think it’s really a matter of your working style. But if I had to give a recommendation, now is a good time to start.

Your welcome!

And yesss … ^ I did my application and supplemental essays over christmas break too … I was pretty stressed.
