hey everyone.. i applied ED to Muhlenberg in the beginning of the month and i've been getting constant letters from them everyday, hoping it has their decision. It's usually just something about internships, study abroad, or something like that. When i called them a week ago to see if they had everything, they said that my application was being read. Then, i got a letter in the mail saying that they let you know by Feb 25th or somewhere around then. I figured that was for those who applied ED later on

Any input would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks!

thanks for the quick response!! I definitely hope to get in and know ASAP-- only applied to 4 other schools so if i don’t get in so i gotta apply to more.

Glad to hear your daughter likes it there… i’ve heard only good things about it thus far. Worst comment i’ve heard was a student say that he is indifferent about being at Muhlenberg.

My D absolutely loves Muhlenberg also. She’s a sophomore this year. I also think you’re likely to hear back well before February. Did you interview in person? Good luck, and let us know!

IMO, this is Muhlenberg’s kind way of saying that you were deferred into the “later ED” pool; the ED cutoff is February 1st…you may want to call and ask; Feb 25th is VERY LATE for an ED response that was submitted in November; they are very nice; I’m sure they would not mind the phone call…

You may also want to ask if your app is still binding just incase you have an EDII school that you wanted to apply to (which you can’t if you don’t hear until February)…

Very curious to hear back about this…first time I’ve heard of this…it actually sounds like they are waiting to see the rest of the ED pool before they make a decision on your app…

Edit: stats look good for the 'Berg…maybe just a standard mail for ED applicants…good luck…

We asked the Admissions Counselor a few weeks ago how long it takes to get an ED decision once it is submitted. She gave the standard line about sometime in February but that they try to turn around decisions in 30 days of application. Personally, I would never apply ED to a college in November if that school told me that they had until February to make a decision. Like rodney points out, it eliminates your ability to apply ED2 anywhere else as a backup.

It sounds to me like the recent letter you received regarding the February timeline for a decision is a general letter sent to all applicants, not just specific to you. IMO, it would be very wrong to accept an ED application in November and not make a admissions decision for up to 3 months. That defeats the whole purpose of ED. Good luck and let us know how you do.

Brown- Yeah, i interviewed in person. I also spoke with my interviewer through a few emails, and I think it went really well.

Rodney- Thanks for the heads up… If i don’t hear by christmas break, i’ll give them a call because i just realized they got my teacher recommendations late (they start looking once they have everything)

Bobby- I sent out the application on November 2nd, but they didn’t get all of my teacher recommendations until 11/23 (i knew they got them late, just not this late!). My mom called the school before I got a chance to, and the lady she spoke to said that my application was being viewed now by someone from admissions. I sent a few extra letters (one from the head of the autistic camp i volunteered at for 2 summers, and another one from the head of marketing for autism speaks (son has aspergers) who i worked with for 4 years)-- never read the 2nd letter but his wife said she couldn’t stop crying after she read it… Do you know if they’ll look at these more since i went ED?

I visited Muhlenberg twice, and both times all of the students went above and beyond to make me feel at home… My dad met an old friend of his whose son offered to let me sleepover one weekend. I was very against going ED until i visited the second time with both of my parents because “binding myself to a school” sounded really scary and i wanted to be sure. However, since i have ADHD, i feel like the close connection with my teachers will be extremely beneficial to my studies. The students who i spoke to really convinced me to go ED though…

I thought back to all of the colleges i visited (Ursinus, Maryland, Loyola MD, GW-- don’t know why haha, hunter, union, albany, ramapo, tcnj, maybe a few others) and i couldn’t imagine choosing one of those over Muhlenberg.

Thanks to everyone who posted in here- i appreciate your advice and support

JW1212 - Just read back from some of your earlier posts that list your stats. I really do think you have a good shot at getting in, especially going ED and having visited, interviewed and emailed so much. Good job upping the SAT scores, btw!

D2 is a junior. She did not apply ED, though, so I’m not familiar with how it works. I only know that applying ED increases your chances of getting in, over RD. I can’t remember the latest statistic, but it might be that somewhere around 60% of its freshman class is admitted ED. So the remaining 40% who are admitted have a much more competitive pool as there are less spaces.

I also applied to Muhlenberg ED and just found out I got in on Friday, I sent my application in on November 15th and when I got the card, like you did, it said they completed my application on November 19th. That being said, it will probably take just under a month for you to hear back.
Don’t listen to what Rodney said, they have “rolling admissions” so they let the applicants know around a month or so after they complete the application. You have not been deferred and you are not in a different applicant pool. They have this “rolling admission” plan open until Feb 15th, which is why the card said they would let you know by Feb 25th, for all the people who apply in February.
ALSO, some great news about applying ED, 79.9% of those who apply to Muhlenberg ED get in! And as teriwtt said, about 60% of the Muhlenberg class is made up of people who applied ED, so it’s filled with people who LOVE Muhlenberg!
