I'm a freshman, and school started on August 25. I haven't talked to my GC yet. However, I know they're crucial when it comes to college apps and getting the courses I want to take. How frequently and when did you start talking to your GC in freshman year? Thanks for your help!

Just stop in. Say, Hi, my name is XYZ, I am one of your freshman, and wanted to introduce myself. Not sure how this whole thing works, so wanted to drop by. Can I ask a question about AP classes, or about gym requirements?

Simple

Being friends with your counselor really helps you out later (getting in classes etc). It's definitly worth your time to just go in and talk whenever you can.

At Ds HS, there was a period of time when a lot of )*% was going on, and my D went into talk about actual classes and scheduling and counselor was SOOOO happy to deal with something that wasn't "emotional"...so they like it when you talk about regular school stuff

i just got a new counsler and she sucks

^most people have been there. just deal w/it. she doesn't hold that much power on you anyway.

yea, tell me why they changed the ENTIRE counseling department my senior year (this year)...I haven't even MET my new counselor yet...I made an appointment 2 weeks ago...they act all rude when you come in to speak with them without making an appointment...

sigh I was so cool with my old counselor...
