please don't call me an idiot for this.

You use "an" in front of a word that starts with a vowel and "a" in front of a word that starts with a consonant. It IS debatable whether or not to use "an" in front of words that start with "H" because technically, H's are supposed to be silent in the English language.

"a" is used when the following word begins with a consonant, and "an" is used when the next word begins with a vowel. Don't worry it's just one of those things people don't always figure out 100% on their own. I have stuff like that, too.

Like for example...

An apple
A banana

"An" is used when the next word begins with a vowel sound, and "a" is used when the next word begins with a consonant.

Exception: A unique person. Not an. (Right??)

ya it all depends on the sound. unique sounds like "yooneek".. so it doesn't get the an.

you use "an" whenever the first letter of the word after it is a vowel. for a it is the consonant

<<h's are="" supposed="" to="" be="" silent="" in="" the="" english="" language.="">></h's>

How do you explain words like how?

saying "an historical" makes one sound very intelligent.

he means like "hour" is said as "our" so you'd use AN. Still, <<h's are="" supposed="" to="" be="" silent="" in="" the="" english="" language.="">>, that statement is a little fishy.</h's>

^ Yeah...I am not sure that all are suppose to be silent.

^I didn't mean all. I meant like, historical, hour, etc. etc. They're technically supposed to be silent.

They aren't supposed to be: they are silent.

No one around here says historical like "istorical."

It depends on the word, on the topic of the "h" sound, that is. There is no way you can generalize that by a simple blanket statement such as "h's are silent all the time".

I made a mistake by not going further in depth with what I meant. Jesus effing Christ. Clearly the apocalypse is coming.

If you say "an historic" there's something wrong with you.

Unoriginal, she said H's are "supposed" to be silent. That means that they should, but the rule doesn't always follow. H's are silent most of the time. In the same mien that the little p makes a "puh" sound. I don't believe that saying a "simple blank" statement like "p's are supposed to sound like puh" is illogical, even considering that in the word "pneumonia," p is silent. Lily's explanation sufficed for whomever was smart enough to understand the overarching point.

HAHA Unorginal I do love your location XD

Huge FFX fan myself. X-2 was a joke, too sappy, it didn't feel like the world was in danger. Garment Grid was so un-comprehensive next to the sphere grid. Lack of my favorite spells Ultima and Holy also made me sad. XII I wasn't connected to the characters at all and it irked me that you couldn't name Vaan and that you had to purchase magicks. And the main character for 13, Lightning, I already just don't like. Dirge of Cerberus I also hated. But I did like VII & VIII, but never played IX. Okay, I'm going overboard here. :(
