When Does a Medical Condition Warrant an Explanation?

I was considering mentioning my medical complications in the "additional info" section, but I'm not sure if I'll come off as a slacker looking for an excuse.

I had a gallbladder infection which spread to my liver and I was just released from the hospital about two weeks ago. I'm taking 5 APs, and I missed way too much material. I got a 40/100 on a Calc test, failed two economics quizzes, an English test, etc.

All this will obviously affect my grades, should I bother explaining or will it do more harm than good?

Being in hospital for 2 weeks is substantial. Why is your school not having you retake the quiz/test? I would have your counselor put something down about your illness and absence from school.

How many days of school did you miss? You need to sit down with your counselor and teachers and talk about a reasonable plan to catch up.

Hi, thanks for the replies.

I was in the hospital for 7 days, but I missed a total of 15 days due to bedrest, doctor appointments, ultrasounds, etc.

I went back to school last week, and I was expected to make up the tests/quizzes because the material was mailed to my house. There obviously wasn’t enough time to review the material, but I still had to take the tests. My counselor said the grades I received are staying and I can make up the rest of the work when I get a chance.

Either way, the situation didn’t seem fair at all, and I was just wondering if it’s appropriate to include a little blurb about what happened.

Thanks

Sending out an application this week…final thoughts on including additional info?
