I'm an international prefrosh and I'd like to know the date that the school year starts so I could book my tickets. I've called the "General Information" at Dartmouth but all I get is a machine asking the person I'd like to speak with. Any advice? Should I call the admissions office?

I’d suggest emailing the registrar’s office.

Generally it starts in late September, but presumably you will want to arrive in time to go on a DOC trip. (Students from far away get to go on the last ones that don’t end until the dorms are open, for obvious reasons.)

[Fall Term 2009 Calenar](This page has moved)

that is the calendar for fall 09…it will probably be similar next year

Don’t be too quick. Dartmouth is investigating starting earlier in order to end Fall term before Thanksgiving as a cost saving measure - reduce heating buildings in December, I guess.

Summer 2010
June 24, Thursday – Summer term classes begin at 7:45 a.m.
August 31, Tuesday – Final examinations end

Fall 2010
September 22, Wednesday – Fall term classes begin at 7:45 a.m.
December 8, Wednesday – Final examinations end

Op should still contact the registrars office because they do arrive to campus earlier. There is an orientation for international students in addition to the DOC trips.

Great thanks! does anyone know when the DOC trips start?

Trips start about 1 1/2 weeks or so before move-in day, I think. If you live in New England or maybe upstate NY and can reasonably go home after the trip, they will assign you to one of the earlier ones. If you live farther away and can’t easily go back and forth they’ll assign you to one of the last trips and possibly let you move your stuff into the dorm early.

I don’t know what they consider to be “too far away” but the one kid I know who was assigned a late trip that ended on move-in day came from Michigan. S–from NE-- went on his trip and then had about 5 days at home.
