The financial aid should arrive in two weeks, or so the letter says. Based on previous experience, does it come fairly soon after the decision, or will I have to wait two weeks (I'll be out of town)? Also, is the estimate close to what one actually receives?

And do I still turn in mid-year reports if I am accepted?

I haven't even filed the FAFSA or CSS profile. Don't you have to wait until the begining of the year to get your taxes back before you can file all that stuff?

For EA applicants, those materials were due before Nov. 14th. I've already filed the CSS Profile and sent in my 2004 tax forms, so they have an idea of what my parents made last year.

I talked to someone in their financial aid office a couple weeks ago. The UofC forms were due December 15th, but the FAFSA and CSS forms are not available until the 1st of January and most tax returns don't come until mid January.

One can use 2004 return for initial estimates, sending in 2005 when it is available. The need based aid, I believe, is announced before merit aid.

Yeah, I recieved a preliminary financial aid package, I only got $8000 in grants, I don't think I'll be able to go to U of C, unless I got merit aid...

You may want to request an explanation of why the financial aid offer was less than expected. It is usually pretty close to to the tuition minus the contribution calculated on the FAFSA.
