When does FinAid communicate with Admissions?

I'm wondering at what point in the process do the FAO people and the Admissions people get together to put together a "package"? If you've been asked by FAO to submit more paperwork, does that mean Admissions wants them to figure out a way to get you there?

At most schools, admissions and FA are seperate procedures. There are some schools that are "need-aware" (you'll need to check and see if the schools to which your student applies are need-aware or need-blind) and these schools will compare notes.

In other words, its on a school by school basis. Most don't... some do.

It's a need-blind school I'm wondering about. Why would FAO go to so much trouble to get a financial package together if the kid wasn't going to be accepted anyhow? Seems like they would have to coordinate their efforts.

I remember last year a number applicants at S's school were asked for FA info (or maybe just notified that they didn't have all their paperwork in) and wondered (in the school forum) if that might be taken as a positive sign.

It not so much that the school is going through so much trouble collecting information from a student they may end up not admitting as much as colleges are required by the federal government to verify the information that is submitted to their office.

At most schools selecting students is a random process so getting a request for additional financial information is just the school fulfilling their due diligence to the government.

Some schools frankly just aren't very coordinated. I actually had an instance of one student that was offered a financial package from the school, and then a week or two later received a letter declining his admission.

Go figure...
