My D submitted an early application in November but was deferred, so she is now sending in more applications. In her original version of the common app, she did not report one of her SAT II scores since she hadn't received it yet (she just noted the date she was taking the test and left the score blank.) Now that she has her score, should she create an alternatve version of the common app to add that piece of information in? Or is this not necessary?

It’s not highly necessary, but I was in the same predicament and I chose to create a new version simply to put forth my best SAT II scores to replace my older weaker ones. This is especially beneficial if the school she is applying to uses score choice and only needs her highest scores. If, however, your school does require all SAT scores, then it really isn’t necessary seeing as you’ve indicated that there are future test scores not entered yet that will be available for the official score report.

Alternative applications are generally intended to correct errors not previously noted on a sent application, or to provide updated information that was not available at the time of your first submission. For example, after applying Early, I was able to create an alternate application to put in additional test scores as well as to add to my activity list.

It’s probably not necessary in your daughter’s case since the scores will be on the official score reports that go to the schools. Like the above poster said, alternative versions are generally used to correct mistakes from earlier apps or putting new EC’s/awards that occurred after sending the earlier apps. But if she wants to do it just to be on the safe side, I don’t think there is any downside to doing it.
