im not trying to be cocky, but so far, everything seems to be going according to plan. im somewhat keeping up with school/readings, etc. and im thinking all my classes are gonna be pretty easy. so is college pretty easy? or am i missing sometihng? will i change my mind once midterms/finals come along or do some people just lose steam as the semester goes along?

Well freshman courses do tend to be easier. You may notice a bit of a crunch in week 3 or 4 of classes, as professors start giving their first major assignments or quizzes. Of course, this will get more intense going into midterms.

Good job staying on top of things so far, and good luck holding on!

It could be that you just have easier classes. Or you really could be just doing great on your own.

Though it's important to keep in mind that a lot of people who get in grade trouble don't realize until it's too late. After the first midterm is not a good time to realize you're behind.

Plus, different classes vary in terms of how much the homework prepares you for exams. Some classes (coughengineering*cough) go to one extreme and give tons and tons of homework, in which case if you make it through the homework, you're probably OK.

Classes on the other extreme have little or even no homework (one class I took was 90% exams and 10% participation!) in which case it's up to you to gauge how well you're prepared and adjust accordingly. Usually, though, freshmen don't take such courses, for obvious reason.

EDIT: And yes, classes tend to start slow and end fast! This is why it is so important not to fall behind too far. It is much easier to keep up if you slowly and incrementally increase your effort along with the classes as the semester goes on.

if you're already on top of things, stay on top of things. that's a good thing...i always felt it was best to start strong so it made things easier/less stressful down the road; if it gets harder, you don't have to be nearly as stressed out about grades at that point, and if it gets easier...well lucky you!

some classes really don't have much homework, readings, or even papers. in one of my classes we had 3, maybe 4 papers that were 2 pages each (with one 3 pages)...no homework or quizzes, few readings. to top that all off, the material was extremely interesting, so it was nice to just worry about understanding it as opposed to worrying about work. needless to say, the class was pretty sweet haha.

considering that i have 18 units in 5 classes, it's been starting off a little slower than i thought as well...but as a sophomore, i already know to expect things to kick up a notch once the first midterms start rolling around. generally around that time all your papers and projects seem to get assigned haha.

what class was that? sign me up!

haha, it was PHIL 115 with Prof. Lewis, a jolly old British man. it's a Cat I GE that i believe is only offered Fall semesters. i highly, highly recommend it. if you check Senate Course Guide, most people say the same thing too.

I'm in phil 115 this semester and he did change it a bit - now there are weekly quizzes in the discussion worth 30% total of the grade. But you're right, it actually is a very interesting class.

hmm... too bad i already have my cat I from ap euro. oh well

Weekly quizzes? ****, my first discussion is today.

ooooh yeah...forgot about the quizzes, mostly because they were so easy that i never worried about them. if you went to lecture and understood all of the very broad concepts, you should have no problem pulling at least a 4 out of 5, if not 5 out of 5 on most of the quizzes. you don't even have to do all the readings to well on them...they're based almost entirely on lecture.
