Congratulations to your son, nycollegedad.

Congratulations, nycollegedad!

Indiana still says they are missing my son's transcript and counselor form, but I know for a fact they have them already.

oregonianmom

the person I spoke to in admissions told me the same thing initially. I politely asked her if she could just double check to see if perhaps my son's transcript had been misplaced. She waqs very nice and said she would and that she would call me back later that day (last week). She called and left a message, telling me she had found the transcript and that my son's application had been place in line to be reviewed. He then got admitted two days later.

I am not sure if they have to have the guidance counselor form to review an applicant. they certainly could require one after admission is granted in order to complete the process. The guidance counselor form is essentially a check to make sure applicants don't overstate their senior schedule etc.

i would recommend calling and asking someone to take a closer look.

good luck!

Thanks NY - I called them just now. What happened was that he submitted all the paperwork for the Wells Scholarship along with his application materials (that's how the process is done). The entire packet goes directly to the Wells committee, who review it and decide if the candidate will continue on with the scholarship selection process, then they send the application materials back to admissions. Admissions hasn't received it back yet. So we wait.

If in a couple of weeks he hasn't heard anything, we will contact them again.

Good to see that if you contact them that they will get back to you. I emailed today because the page says the same thing and all forms have been submitted.
Hopefully news soon.

It takes them a couple of days to return an email, but they are good about responding. Son got an email reply yesterday saying that all forms were in, and that it would be 3-5 weeks while they review his application. At least everything is there now; we just need to be patient. ;)

I just got accepted today. The status page finally was updated.

BTW, I had a 21 and 23 ACT with a 3.38 GPA(with a decent amount of C's).

Not to put IU down at all but my thoughts about them hyping up their admission statistics were correct. During my visit they said the average ACT and GPA was a 26 and 3.5ish.....that was some BS!

congrats man

jayjohnson43,

I think what it takes to get into the school (as evidenced by your GPA and test scores) and what the average GPA and test scores are do not have to be all that close.

Remember that the school has over 29,000 undergraduates--meaning they admit over 7,000 new students each year-so it's quite possible for the average to be at 3.5 GPA and an ACT of 26 while still having those at the lower end get in with a 3.38 GPA and an ACT of 23.

Therefore, I'm not sure calling the claim the administrators made BS is necessarily accurate--although if they implied that you needed a 3.5 GPA and 26 ACT to get in, then I would agree with you.

P.S. Congratulations on your admittance to IU-B.

Do you know, when they say the average ACT score for the "fall admitted freshmen" (their wording), do they mean all students who were admitted or all students who attended?

calcruzer, my mistake, the 3.5 and 26 was not the average, it was what they said they were looking for, that probably doesn't make a difference. But oh well, i got in so whatever.

Izzie, I have seen what you are looking at on the IUB website and I'm pretty sure that it is the average of all the admitted students, not the enrolled. Since the average is probably higher of those that they admitted than actually chose to attend they want to "hype" up the school and the incoming class, especially since IU's standards are apparently getting tougher because of the huge rise in applications the past 2 years. Also, according to their wording "fall admitted freshmen", it is the admitted freshman for the fall, not the enrolled freshman for the fall.

Awaiting my decision, I cant wait.

I just received my IU acceptance packet today. I am so excited. It was a really quick turn around. The fact that IU has been able to answer all of my questions so quickly and clearly really speaks wonders about the school. Good luck to everyone applying.

^^ Opposite situation here. Son applied online on 9/1 or theareabouts. His school took a while to get the paperwork sent in. It arrived on 9/25, and IU has acknowledged receipt of it via e-mail (son sent them an email and got a reply that they do have everything). But his online status still says "Please call the office of admissions." Meanwhile, they send him email and snail mail nearly every day, encouraging him to apply (done!), visit (done!), and to turn in the rest of his paperwork (done!). Sometimes it seems that the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing, which I guess is probably the case with such a big school. But, boy, they could save a bundle in mailing costs if they culled their list and didn't send these things to people who have already applied.

I know exactly what you mean, in fact just today I received an email and postcard telling my to visit and apply even though i applyed in august and was accepted friday. I have probably received 10 letters and cards telling me to apply even though I already have. You would thing the computer records with my info would be coordinated with the admissions records, but apparently not. In some minds at IU I am a perspective student while in other eyes, I am an admitted student.....thankfully the admissions know I am admitted. Just keep waiting and you will find out your status, my school sent out my transcripts very late after I applyed too but eventually everything will get lined up.

I jst got admitted into Indiana University-Bloomington. aka I am pleased. My numbers if anybody's wondering are: class rank 41/309, good public school in WI, ACT 30, GPA(U) 3.4ish. i really wanna get into kelley tho so if anyone knows how kelley determines their direct admission, let me know. (do they look at weighted at all cuz my weighted is higher than 3.4)
