When does PSU usually hold its new student orientation?

I’m asking because I have no clue when to take the Aleks placement test and I know it’s supposed to be completed before NSO. The thing is I’m not done school until the end of May and that means I won’t be able to take certain parts of the test right now since I haven’t completed the math topics fully. Am I freaking out over nothing?

The Aleks testing was supposed to have begun yesterday. But, my daughter still had not gotten her user id for the LionPath website where you go to take it. I contacted admissions. They said the id’s will be going out later this week. Once you get your Alek testing done. You will be given a date for NSO. NSO’s don’t start until late May-early June. From what I have heard the earlier your NSO date the better as you get first dibs at class selection for the fall.

I am sure their is someone here that knows more specifically.

Mine was in June. Don’t sweat it – you have plenty of time.

I will be gone for the Summer starting mid June. If I am assigned a date that I cannot make, can I reschedule?

Commit early, get your ALEKS done early, and get an earlier date. You don’t want to get one later than June – classes start to fill up fast.

If I do my ALEKS test mid may, will I have enough time before NSO to retake the test if I do bad?

BTW Im taking it mid may because Im still in middle of Pre-cal.

My understating is you can take the ALEKS test now and if you are not satisfied with the score, you can always retake it. My son just finished taking it and although he said it was really hard, he placed right where he should be for the math class he needs for the Smeal pre major.

Dont you have to retake it between the time of the first test and NSO. Also I never got my PSU ID to log in and take ALEKS.

I just took the ALEKS exam, I found it relatively easy and finished in 45ish minutes. Now, I am patiently waiting for the NSO date.

@Ajpat123 This might help http://advising.psu.edu/aleks/index.html

So I can take retests until classes begin? its not really clear.

I also dont have my lion path stuff yet.

According to this http://advising.psu.edu/aleks/improvescore.html it sounds like you can only take it 3 times. You need to sit through the 10 hour learning module first. It doesn’t say if it needs to be completed before your NSO. I would be careful about placing too high in your math class at PSU. I hear even if you’re great at math, that the math classes are brutal. Better to start lower and work your way up.

My daughter wants to take the test. But, has not gotten the email with her LionPath id#. I called admissions and they said the email should be going out in the next day or two. For those who have taken it…When did you get your LionPath ID?

@zipbags My son just logged on with his id that he’s had. The one that he used to select living option and everything else.I don’t believe they sent him any kind of email with another id.

I kind of need to be in calculus for engineering so…

The email went out this morning inviting students to take the next steps in order to complete the assessment and the New Student Survey

@Techtheatrewiz Yep…My daughter got hers a hour or so ago. Will be taking the test later today.

@Ajpat123 Your PSU ID will be on all of your acceptance information. The portal and the letter. You need to do the ALEKS test before you will get your new student orientation date. The earlier you have your NSO, the easier it is to get the classes you need. If you don’t test into the calc classes, you will have to take pre-req’s.

@jlhpsu Actually, its different this year. You don’t use the PSU Id you got when you applied. All students should have gotten an activation email from the school over the last few weeks. Then today emails went out with a new ID for the LionPath site where you can take the test. This what I was told by the NSO office and what my D got by email.

@zipbags @jlhpsu I have a bit of a problem, I got the email today saying to take the test but it wont let me log in.
It says:

" WebAccess: Access Account Required
The WebAccess-protected website you are attempting to reach is only open to Access Accounts; however, you are using a Friends of Penn State (FPS) account.
If you have an Access Account account, then log out and use the Access Account to reach the website."

Dont really know what that means.
