No mail server can send 28,000 emails simultaneously. They’ll be sent starting at 8 est, but it’ll probably take at least 15 minutes to a half an hour or more to send that many emails, depending on the capability of their servers.

Admission Decision Update
March 17, 2009
We expect that admission decisions will be emailed after 5pm (Pacific Time) on April 1. Decisions for applicants who have applied for freshman admission will be emailed. Decisions will not be available on any Stanford Web site, nor will they be released over the phone. Students who do not receive their decision by email, may call the Office of Undergraduate Admission only after April 6 to get their decision over the phone. Decisions are only provided to students and not to parents or any other relatives.
Transfer admission decisions will be sent by email on May 15 after 5pm (Pacific Time).

yeah we know…

So why are some people still thinking its today? I’m just confused… sorry. hah.

If you wanna get technical, very few mail servers could send two emails simultaneously. They just get sent really quickly, one after the other.

And for the poster before me, read up in the topic. That question has been asked and answered several times.

Six hours before UChicago posted its decisions online, it posted a message on its blog saying “We’d appreciate if we are not bombarded every 5 seconds by anxious high school seniors about when the decisions will be released. Please expect decisions to be released on April 1st.”

The decisions were released six hours after that message was posted.
