When does student leave after a quarter ends?

The academic calendar says the incoming fall quarter ends on Saturday Dec 14, 2013. Can a student leave school on that day?

The calendar also says the residence hall will close on that day. I assume that no students can stay in their dorms during its closure.

Is it true?

The quarters always end on a Saturday, and the student must be out of the dorms-unless they are in South or I-house, usually by 1 pm or 3 pm. Depending on their exam schedule, they may finish the quarter early in the week, or not until that Friday. By Friday night all exams are finished. After they register for classes for the quarter, you can get a rough idea of when the exam will be (here is the page from last year): http://registrar.uchicago.edu/sites/registrar.uchicago.edu/files/uploads/pdf/Final%20Exams%202012-2013%20GENERIC%20SCHEDULE.pdf</a>
If you need to book a flight now, the safe bet is to wait until Saturday to leave. There is a free shuttle (at least from BJ and I would assume other dorms) that leaves very early in the morning to go to Midway Airport on these Saturdays.
